"You need a good breakfast, we have to win against the Hufflepuffs today," Oliver Wood said, filling my plate with a bunch of breakfast foods. How was I supposed to eat all that? It was 7 A.M, and I just wanted to go back to sleep.I leaned on Fred, who was beside me, my eyes slowly drifting closed. Hermione had forced me to stay up trying to find information on the Chamber of Secrets with her.
"Tired?" Fred asked. I nodded, eyes still closed.
I jumped up as Wood smacked the table, trying to wake me up.
"I'm awake!" I yelled. Where was the coffee when you needed it?
"You better be, we need you in this match, Lily," Wood said seriously. I nodded groggily, taking a bite out of a piece of toast.
After a long breakfast full of George continuously singing, "His eyes are as green as a fresh pickled toad, his hair is as dark as a blackboard," it was almost time for the Quidditch match. Ava and I were walking behind Harry, Ron, Olivia, and Hermione.
"Do good for me today, okay?" Ava said. I nodded, my head not fully in the game. I kept reliving Riddle's memory in my head, trying to make sense of it all. It was all that I had been thinking about lately.
"Lily, what's wrong? You're all spaced out," Ava said, frowning a bit.
"Nothing, just tired," I lied, hoping she wouldn't see through it.
She was about to reply, when Hermione said something about understanding everything, and took off running towards the library. I didn't really like the idea of her going alone, but I was sure she would be okay. There hadn't been any attacks recently.
I said goodbye to Ava, Olivia, and Ron as we approached the Quidditch pitch. They went to sit in the stands, and Harry and I met the rest of the team in the changing room.
Wood gave the team the usual pep talk that seemed to last forever, and then went over some of the plays. Bleh, I heard this stuff every time we had a match.
A few minutes later, I was mounting my broom, about to kick off from the ground, when Professor McGonagall came running down from the castle. Surprisingly, she ran right onto the pitch. Everyone in the stands was whispering, wondering what was going on. I was wondering the same thing.
"What in the name of Merlin is she doing?" I said to Angelina, who shrugged with a questioning look on her face.
"I'm sorry, but the game is being cancelled. Another student has been petrified!" McGonagall shouted. I gasped, making eye contact with Harry. "The prefects will lead you back to your common rooms for the rest of the day. Mister Potter, Miss Potter, come with me."
I exchanged a glance with Harry. Ron came running down from the stands as we headed to the castle, catching up with us.
"Mister Weasley, you'd better come as well..." McGonagall said quickly. Anxiety was building up inside of me as we followed her through the castle, until we arrived at the hospital wing.
There laid Hermione, petrified.
"Oh no, no no no, Hermione?" I cried, running to kneel beside her. Tears began forming in my eyes, threatening to flow over.
Harry crouched beside me, and Ron on the other side, who looked like he was about to cry any
second."Is she going to be okay, Professor?" Harry asked, his voice quavering.
"We will be able to revive her with mandrakes once they are ready, but until then, she is petrified..." McGonagall croaked, sounding like she might cry herself.
