A Grave Mistake

MARIA'S POV:

I walked into the front room where Candice was sitting. She was one of my soldiers, hopefully the lie had worked on that pathetic son of Mattia's.

"Did he buy it?" I asked. She stood up, nodding her head at me.

"Yes, boss" she said "I told him I was your daughter and he believed you were my mother. He didn't flinch when I said your name".

I froze. My heart practically dropped to my stomach.

"You told him.." I started, trying to comprehend what I'd just heard "you gave him my..."

"Your name?" she said, her eyes going wide when she'd realised her mistake. I reached forward and grabbed her shirt shaking her as I screamed.

"Why the fuck would you give me away!?" I yelled.

"Now they know, you stupid girl! Our whole plan is ruined, the kid might not know us but his parents do! Don't you understand that?" I let go of her, pacing back and forth "I spent my whole life trying to kill them and then you go and ruin it"

I turned back to face her to see she was holding a gun towards me. I felt around for mine but I must have misplaced it.

"You had me all wrong" she said, a small smirk forming on her face.

"Wait" I said, placing my shaking hands up.

"I'm an undercover for NJ13, Petrovas" she said. I clenched my jaw realising how badly this was going to end for me. I closed my eyes as she loaded the gun.

"And to think-"

Gunshots. Two of them. I fell to the ground, bracing myself. I felt two hands on my shoulders, gently lifting me up but I kept my eyes closed.

"I'm here"

I recognised Alejandro's voice immediately and opened my eyes, wrapping my arms around him.

"She was.."

"I know, I heard everything" he said, rubbing my back to calm my shaking body. I'd never been in that situation before. That was the first and last time I was letting Mattia Polibio cross me like that.

OLIVIA'S POV:

I clinked my champagne glass against Mattia's as Levi told us the news of how it went down.

"Maria should be dead by now" he said proudly. I smiled at Mattia who gave me the same energy back as he wrapped an arm around my shoulder, pulling me towards him.

"I literally told Candice that you were unemployed, my whole mind went blank" he laughed. I rolled my eyes, leaning on Mattia.

We'd known that Levi had fallen somehow in love with one of our most loyal soldiers, Candice. That's why we set up a date for him with her after we sent her to Nikolai 19 as an undercover. That way she'd kill Maria after the date and everything would be done our way. We exchanged hugs as Trixie walked into the room, staring at us in disbelief.

"Oh so now we're throwing parties without me?"

"Trixie it's not what it looks like" said Mattia, placing his glass on the table. I looked at Levi who quickly poured another glass of champagne.

"Surprise!" he shouted, handing the glass to Trixie. She smiled, taking the glass from his hand.

"Thanks!" she exclaimed before throwing the alcohol over his shirt. I couldn't even argue with her since this looked exactly what she thought it looked like.

"I'm going out, enjoy your fucking party" she said, slamming the door on her way out.

I looked at Mattia as we both remembered it at the same time.

I looked down at the table to see the marriage license before looking back at Mattia who kept avoiding my eyes. It was only us in the room yet the silence was deafening.

I scoffed, walking towards the door with a glass of champagne in my hand, placing my free hand on the doorknob as I looked back as him.

"Enjoy your fucking wedding"
