TRIXIE'S POV:
I walked into Target with my hood up, keeping a low profile so no one could see that I'd practically cried my eyeballs out all the way here.
I just wanted to be involved. I wanted to have some role to play in this mafia world everyone else was living in. Why shouldn't I? I was a main target given who my family was. Didn't they want me protected?
I sighed as I went to the ice cream section, pulling my hood down as I reached for a cookies & cream ice cream tub. Usually I'd get a normal sized amount but today ice cream was going to be my only therapy. I picked up the biggest one I could find and went to the checkout stands.
"$2.49" said the cashier. I took out my phone and scanned it on the machine watching the transfer take place.
"Babe!"
I looked up and saw a boy walking towards me, with his arms out. I furrowed my eyebrows, looking back at the cashier who was handing me my ice cream.
"I've been looking all over for you!" he exclaimed, slinging an arm around my shoulders. Before I could push him off he moved his mouth closer to my ear whilst guiding me towards the exit.
"The guy behind you was looking sus and his hand was moving towards a gun in his jacket, please just go along with it"
I felt my heartbeat start to increase as he walked me to his car which was a bit away from the store.
"How do I know you're not about to kidnap me? I don't even know your fucking name" I said, pulling myself away from him once we'd got to the his car.
"You don't" he said, taking a step away from me "you just have to trust me".
I narrowed my eyes at him, trying to read him. He was different to most boys I'd met. I felt like there was a story to him. He had jet black hair which was curly at the ends and a perfect button nose. His features were pretty enough but it made me wonder what was going through his head.
Snap out of it, Trix. He's just like the rest.
"I have to get home" I said, snapping out of it and turning the other direction.
"I'll walk you"
"I'm good, really" I said, walking a little faster. But he stayed with me which just irritated me even more.
I figured he was never gonna leave me alone till I got home so I bit my tongue and stopped myself from having a tantrum. I was getting good at those."So what's your name?" I asked, maybe talking to the guy would help my journey go quicker.
"Hendrix" he replied "Hendrix Rosario"
"Nice name" I said "I'm Trixie". Mom and Dad might've never let me in the mafia business. But I wasn't that stupid to give him my last name knowing he'd probably shoot me if he was actually after my family.
"Trixie what?" he asked innocently. Then I realised we were going to my place where he'd probably see my Dad. He'd know where we lived.
"Let's go to the park" I said quickly, taking his hand and running in the opposite direction. He tried to object but I didn't give him any time to speak. We ended up at the town park which was empty since it was the middle of the night.
There was an abandoned car lying in the field and I went to lay back on the hood and Hendrix joined.
"Do you always do this?"
"Do what?" I asked, looking over at him. He laid next to me as we both looked up at the sky.
"Buy ice cream at 11pm and then find a stranger to drag to the park?"
I laughed a little before looking at the tub of ice cream which had probably melted by now. I threw it down onto the ground, watching Hendrix shake his head.
"That was a waste of three dollars"
"It's melted, it's no good to me now" I said, lying back down. I felt him staring at me but kept my eyes on the stars above.
"And how do I know you're not about to kidnap me?"
His voice was lower than the first time I heard it, I assumed it was cause we were laying down. It had a husky tone to it, just like a morning voice.
"You don't" I said, turning my head to face him properly "you just have to trust me"
