"Luke," Evelyn groaned, hopping on the crutches down the airport hall, "I'm okay."
They finally arrived back from their trip, landing now in the airport. It was a tiring flight back, but, the people who organized the competition did offer to get Evelyn and Luke first class seats for her injury.
And that's how you use your injuries for good.
"No you're not-" He argued, slipping an arm around the girl and pulling her at once off her feet.
She squealed, Coach Tina quickly catching the crutches from her hands that she had dropped on the movement.
Evelyn was now in bridal style, literally swept off her feet as he carried her with so much ease.
She tried not to drool at the tensing of his muscles.
"Wouldn't it be better to just grab a wheelchair?" Luke pointed out as Coach Tina nodded and ran to one of the security. They had those around for easy access.
"Luke I'm fine without a wheelchair-"
He cut her off commandingly; "No you're not."
"But-"
"Evelyn," He warned.
"Babe," Evelyn whined. When she realized what she said, her eyes widened, her word frozen in her throat.
Despite her wishes, Luke caught it, "Did you just call me babe?"
She began to redden. It didn't matter how long they dated or how many different boundaries they crossed with each other, she had never called him a pet name before.
And Luke fricking loved it.
"No," she mumbled in defense as he smirked. Luke brought the girl much closer to him now, curling his arm around her back to lift her further.
"I think you did," He smiled, "Babe."
"Ugh I hate you."
He laughed, "I love you too."
Her coach came back with the wheelchair as Luke gently shifted her into it, ensuring she didn't bump anything while getting in.
He pushed her in it as she sighed, rubbing her knee. It was now in a medical brace, protecting it.
The waves of people standing in the airport after the plane greeted a various number of people. Families reunited, friends shaking hands.
Smack dab in the center was her own chaos.
"Eve!" Hailey screamed, running towards her with a large sign, "What happened to you?"
She winced as Hailey reached over and gave her a hug, clumsily hitting her knee.
"I got kicked in the back of the knee that you're leaning on."
The girl scampered off of Evelyn, muttering apologies as the rest greeted her.
Michael smiled, hugging Luke and pressing a kiss to Evelyn's head while Kate and Ashton swamped her with endless attention.
Calum leaned over to take her crutches from the coach, freeing her of her duty and greeting the two with wide smiles.
Her father stood tired behind them all, clearly fed up with all of their energy. His eyes held a lack of sleep that she could recognize from anywhere.
She waved at him from a ways away as he smiled, waving back.
"So?" Ashton tapped his foot expectantly, "How did it go?"
