"Are you ready?" Evelyn turned to ask Hailey, straightening her notecards in a neat pile.

Finally, after absolute weeks of preparation, it was time for the debate. They spent hours a week preparing their statements, rebuttals, counterclaims, etc.

Evelyn had a very hard time forgiving her friends for what they had said about her and her boyfriend. Each one apologized separately, and yet none seemed so sincere to her. As if they were only apologizing for the fact that she had heard, not what they had said.

So, unbelievably, rude.

In that time, Luke had interacted with the girl more frequently, in small doses. She had become slightly more comfortable around him in the sense that she knew he would not be talking about her behind her back.

No, his comebacks would be face to face, as they always had been and always continued to be.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome our next debaters. Luke Hemmings and Calum Hood, Evelyn Clifford and Hailey Williams."

Evelyn smoothened down her dark blue dress, the edge brushing against her mid thighs as it flowed out from her waist. The top was a short v neck, covered with some lace.

To say she looked nice was an understatement.

She looked in front of her to see Luke walking over with a clean cut black suit, the top framing his broad shoulders as the sleeves slightly tightened around his biceps.

His white button down had the first two undone, leaving a slight peek into his chest. There, a gold cross sat on his chest, the chain resting around his neck.

A smirk played on his face, the black lip ring sitting on his lip.

Wow. That's all that was running through her head. He looked so good.

Calum reaches over to shake her hand, Evelyn politely putting her hand in his for a firm shake. He avoided eye contact with her.

Things didn't fully settle between them; she only really saw him with Michael and she didn't try to engage. Whenever he was at their house, she made small talk and avoided her friends.

It wasn't that she hated him, it's just that his words were still ringing in her head.

Evelyn turned to Luke, reaching over to shake his hand as well. She felt her heart thump a little harder as his large hand gripped hers, shaking it firmly. Her throat drying as she all of a sudden needed a lot of water.

He leaned over to discreetly whisper, "Good luck, princess".

She tried to hide her blush as he smirked. He knew it. She smiled whispering softly, "Good luck Luke."

The way she whispered his name made his heart stop. Slowly, he walked back to his side of the room with the two podiums for their planning.

Luke. He wanted to hear her say his name in more than one w-

Snap out of it.

He turned over to his podium, gripping the edges as he glanced back at the girl. She tucked in a piece of her hair and glanced over at him.

To his enjoyment and surprise, she made a small wave, barely moving her fingers but just enough for him to see.

Something so small, and yet it affected him so much. Her purity, her innocence.

He just wanted to ruin her.

He snapped out of his gaze when he heard Calum shuffling his papers.
