can we just take a moment of silence for this picture of luke. holy mother of God.
im gonna need more than a moment.
As much as everyone wished otherwise, they had to go back to school.
Evelyn was awoken by a gentle shaking of her shoulder. She opened her eyes slowly, still laying on her side in bed. In front of her was her dad, gently waking her up for the day.
Her heart pined for a moment- Michael always woke her up in the mornings.
And if Michael didn't- Luke did.
She slowly sat up, rubbing her eyes as her dad kneeled down next to her. "Eve, I need to tell you about something."
"Please," Her voice cracked, nearly already about to cry once more, "No more bad news."
He opened his mouth to respond, but closed it right after with a nod. He patted her head lightly, exiting the room and closing it after her.
I am so not in the mood to change.
Despite the fact, Evelyn knew that she had to. She forced herself to assemble some sort of outfit together. She always chose comfort over look, considering high school doesn't even matter anymore.
She groaned. Applications would be due in a few months.
I haven't even begun.
She shook the thought from her head, deciding on a sweatshirt with loose sweatpants, covering her body comfortably. Evelyn did not attempt to match them, though black and black do seem to just suit each other regardless.
Her hand fumbled around her neck, now remembering the necklace with Luke's ring on it.
She tried hard to forget it, but she couldn't. Evelyn couldn't bring herself to take it off, no matter how much she wanted to.
She finally brought herself to step out of her room, walk down the hall and into the living room.
There, her eyes caught Michael. Shock emitted through her body, freezing her as a cold spark shot down her back.
This must be what Dad was trying to tell me.
Whatever Ashton said to him clearly worked, because here he was- back. Whatever he had done to him, Evelyn thought, was enough to scare him into his own home.
Michael turned around to look at Evelyn, eyes bloodshot and puffy from what looked like a nasty hangover. He kind of deserved that- though Evelyn would never wish ill on her brother.
She was frozen under his gaze, averting her eyes down down the ground and moving into the kitchen shakily.
Her hands fumbled in the closet, skimming past the Lucky Charms and instead, grabbing the bread bag. She slid a piece into the toaster wordlessly, her back turned to Michael.
Maybe if I pretend he's not here, he will go away.
When it was done, Evelyn took a bite out, slipping past MIchael and grabbing her bag.
"Do-you need a ride?" Michael asked, a soft voice, uneasy. It was clear that he felt like he was overstepping, though he had been overstepping for days anyways.
Evelyn kept walking down the hall, avoiding his presence. She turned just for a moment to respond, despite he lack of wanting to, "I'm alright."
With that, she exited the house, closing the door behind her.
There, sat her car. She froze in place for the fifth time that morning.
Evelyn trained for so long, practiced for days to learn how to get over her fear of driving. She had done so well, completely eradicated it from her mind. It was quite impressive to everyone who knew her.
