back to the story :)

"Yes Hailey," Evelyn pinched the bridge of her nose, "I understand that. But it's honestly not a big deal. Nothing happened."

Hailey sat up so quickly that Evelyn almost got whiplash. "Nothing happened?!"

Evelyn nodded, raising her eyebrows at Hailey.

If looks could kill, this little woman would be dead. Literally.

"Girl are you kidding me? You have feelings for him, which you didn't tell me about by the way," Hailey pointed a finger at the girl.

Evelyn raised her hands in defense, "To be fair, I didn't admit it to myself until Ashton asked me."

"But-"

"Also, are you forgetting I have a boyfriend?" Evelyn reminded the girl.

Hailey groaned, waving the other girl away, "He's a dick anyways."

"Hailey!"

"Evelyn!" Hailey mocked her friend.

"Come on Hailey, it was nothing. Barely a crush, it was just me getting caught up in how nice he was. He's gone back to being mean, so this will go away."

Liar. What a liar.

Hailey paused, looking down at her phone before back at Evelyn. She tried her hardest to calm her tone.

"Well," Hailey murmured, "You should talk to him if you get a chance. Clear things up."

Evelyn tucked her brown hair under her ear, her piercings shining. Moving her knees to kick the blanket, she sat impatiently.

Evelyn finally answered Hailey, only to give some sort of satisfaction on her insistence, "Okay. If he approaches me, then fine."

As if he would.

It was quiet for a little while longer, the two on their own separate devices trying to pass time. Neither really saying what's on their minds.

"Alright girls," Evelyn's dad walked in, "You two should get some sleep. You got school tomorrow."

Evelyn raised her hand in mock salute as her dad laughed and turned to leave, "Goodnight kiddos."

"Goodnight!" Hailey called out, as she reached out to turn off the lights.

"How is the divorce going?" Hailey snuggled deep into the blanket next to Evelyn, who laid down next to Hailey and stared at the ceiling.

"It's okay," Evelyn muttered, playing with her fingers.

Silence surrounded the two, "I don't really feel like seeing Karen."

Hailey snorted, "Love that your mom's name is Karen. Hilarious."

Laughter began to erupt between the two, "She really is a Karen in every sense of the world."

The laughter began to dwindle as Evelyn spoke once more, "I hate her so much for just leaving my dad like that. He adored her. To death."

Hailey reached over and wrapped a hand around Evelyn, "I'm sorry Eve."

"It's alright," the little girl sighed, before turning over into her stomach, "I just don't feel like seeing her boyfriend, Jim."

Evelyn's nose turned up at the thought.

Hailey shifted in the bed, "It was a little too close to her wanting the divorce, wasn't it."
