Sleep is easily the human's favorite escape.

People get to sleep and dream about other worlds, have a break from the one they are currently in. It's truly the closest thing to leaving this reality.

Then, we wake up, and for a split second, just for a moment, we remember nothing. The issues of life don't hit us and it is just about waking up.

But it comes back. It always does.

Evelyn's eyes fluttered open to the light of the sun invading her room. It was too low of a light, signaling it could not have been later than 4 am.

She rubbed her eyes, slowly sitting up out of her bed and gripping the covers. For a moment, she was fine. Evelyn had no recollection of anything but bring awake.

But then, she remembered.

She remembered all the events that previously occurred, and a weight sunk in her chest. Being awake so early in the morning did not help.

I can't even escape this pain in my sleep.

Slowly getting out of bed, she sluggishly exited her room and down the hall. Her mind was hazy, as if she was drunk. She nearly tripped over her feet multiple times, deciding to lean on the wall next to her as she made it slowly into the living room.

Evelyn's eyes peered over to Calum, who was fast asleep on the couch. His lips were parted open, his hair perfect, somehow. A prick of guilt feigned her chest at the though of him sleeping at her place, probably not comfortable.

While the couch was big, he was also big. A giant.

But, more than anything, she needed to go back to sleep.

Despite the lack of space, she managed to fit herself next to him. It was a wide enough couch that they both fit with ease as she pressed her back to his chest.

Carefully, Evelyn inserted her legs in between his so that they both fully fit on the bed.

She just needed comfort, another human being's heartbeat next to hers. Evelyn took his rested arm and wrapped it around her, closing her eyes and trying to relax against him.

He shifted behind her, signaling his drowsy state was being awoken. Lazily, he slurred, still half asleep, "Eve?"

Wordlessly, Evelyn stayed in place, squeezing his hand tighter as a way to communicate with him. Lightly, Calum squeezed her hand back, pulling her more in so that her back pressed against his chest.

She hadn't slept alone in so long.

She missed Luke, so bad.

Gently, Calum rubbed his thumb across her hand, bringing even closer to his chest as they curled up on the couch.

Her eyes felt heavy once more as they both began falling asleep once more, finding comfort in each other.

Sleep came around more comfortably, dozing off into a heavier state of unconsciousness.

It felt like minutes later, when it really was hours, when they woke up to the sound of ruckus in the kitchen.

The pots and pans clashing against each other woke them both up out of their state of sleep.

Calum stirred first, slowly sitting up and being extra careful not to move Evelyn. He brushed her hair gently out of her face.

Unfortunately, she was a light sleeper.

The aroma of pancakes filled the house. Evelyn turned from the sleeping position to a sitting, leaning her dizzy head against Calum. Gently, he pressed a light kiss to her head.
