It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.
It was the first day of senior year."Eve, wake up," Michael spoke in an excited voice as he gently knocked his knuckles against the door. "Calum is coming with his dad's yellow Hummer and we don't want to make him late."
Evelyn glanced at the clock to see the time before groaning and rolling on her side. She was not a morning person, quite far from it. Just the sound of birds would ruin her morning.
She flipped Michael off, angry at how early he woke her up, although he knew too well she would take forever.
Evelyn slowly walked to the closet, half asleep, and looked through her closet. "Crap," she mumbled, "I don't have anything to wear."
Michael smiled as held out an outfit along with matching shoes in anticipation of her lack of organization.
Good thing I have Michael.
Evelyn took them from him gratefully before asking, "How are you so organized." He laughed and shrugged as Evelyn got dressed.
It was a simple outfit, a 'Harvard' sweatshirt and a white skirt. She ran her hands on top of the bumpy words, mentally taking note of how soft the sweater was.
She threw her backpack on and walked downstairs. Her dad was sitting in the dining room with his reading glasses on and a glass of orange juice.
"Good morning Eve," Her dad said as she leaned down to kiss him on the cheek, watching him smile sadly before returning his attention to the divorce papers in front of him.
It's been a hard time for the Clifford family, constantly having to see their Dad with bags under his eyes and stress wrinkles in his face.
Hopefully, Eve thought, glancing at the ceiling as if God were right there, it would end soon.
She just wanted to resume their happy family life, minus one of course.
"It'll get better Dad," she spoke softly hoping he would have belief in her words. He gently rubbed her arm before urging her to go to her brother so they could make it to school on time.
She walked up to her brother who was waiting expectantly for her, a bowl of cereal in his hand. Just then, her stomach rumbled.
She moaned angrily, "Ah shit I forgot to make myself breakfast." Michael rolled his eyes.
"Who do you think these Lucky Charms are for?"
Evelyn smiled widely and took it from him, shoving heaps of the sweet goodness in her mouth. "How are we twins?" He continued.
She shrugged at his question. They were quite unalike, despite the fact that they were twins.
Just then, both of them heard a honk outside their house. Calum. "Bye Dad," she yelled as Michael opened the door to reveal Calum, true to Michael's words, in his father's hummer.
"Hey pretty girl," Calum sang, "What's your name what's your number?" Evelyn laughed. Calum was always the flirty type, and no boundaries, which takes time to get used to.
He meant no harm, usually.
"Oh that's good," Michael opened his 'music' notebook which was full of scribbled lyrics, and began to write that down, "And Hood. No flirting with my twin sister."
Calum rolled his eyes at Michael before turning to scan Evelyn's outfit as she got into the passenger seat. "Why is your outfit actually matching?" She wordlessly pointed towards Michael, and Calum nodded with his mouth in an 'O' knowingly.
"Michael, why are all your outfits ugly but you seem to do your sisters just fine?" Michael raised his hands in defense.
"Hey that girl needs all the help she can get. I can pull with my looks but Eve...she needs assistance." She turned around and stuck her tongue at him as he did the same. Calum laughed.
"And why does Eve get to be in the front?" Michael whined as Calum looked to the right for parking in the small school parking lot. Calum made a sound in excitement at an open spot.
"Because," Calum concentrated on the parking before speaking, "she doesn't try to organize everything I own in the glove compartment."
She laughed as Michael scoffed, mumbling something about it being unbearably messy.
Evelyn, along with the other two arguing boys got out along with their backpacks.
She waited with Michael and Calum outside in the designated areas until the bell rang, letting them in the 12th grade designated hallways.
She heard a voice yell her name, "Evelyn! Evelyn darling!" It was Ashton. He barely made it to the school on time.
She rolled her eyes at his fake posh before smiling; he was always pulling things like this.
She ran up to him and wrapped her smaller arms around his neck, giving him a big hug. "Hi Ash," Evelyn mumbled in his neck as he laughed, pulling her away to look at her.
"Look at you. You've grown so much," Ashton spoke in exclamation as she playfully punched him on the shoulder.
"Ash I saw you a week ago," She giggled as he dismissed her words with his hands, fixing the Fedora on his head. Evelyn giggled at the hat as he rolled his eyes, batting her hand away at the poor attempt to take it.
"Could it be," She paused, looking around for a certain boy dramatically, "Is Puke really not here?" Evelyn said with a hopeful tone on her voice.
"That," the tall figure came up beside Ashton facing her, letting Evelyn's face sink in disappointment, "is a negative. Good morning princess." she huffed. It was worth a shot.
"God, why is he alive?" Evelyn looked up to the ceiling and then looked at Luke with a hand on her hip.
Luke leaned towards her, his face next to her ear as he whispered into her hair, "My death would be too easy for you."
He then pulled away a little bit to look at her face, "Have fun with an eternity of misery."
She pushed away from the tall blond. Holding her phone, Evelyn opened the schedule that came in an email from the school. That was the "new and improved" way to get information.
In Evelyn's opinion, she would have rathered a piece of paper.
Homeroom- Mrs. Morgan. Her heart sunk at the name. If any teacher was famous for being terrible it was her.
She grumpily walked into the classroom to begin her first day at school.
