"One dark roast, black coffee please."

The barista punched a few keys into the cash register before a small ding made a sound, signaling the total.

"Alright that will be $1.85," she smiled as Luke pulled out his wallet and handed her the money.

A picture of him and Evelyn fell onto the counter by accident. The barista cooed, "You guys are adorable."

He picked up the picture with a smile and thanked her, holding it in his hands as he walked away from the line.

This picture was taken not too far back, during a time Evelyn was over at his house.

Flashback

Evelyn laughed with Liz, teasing Luke, "We know you were a chubby baby, it's okay Luke."

"I was not!"

Finally the girl calmed herself and stopped laughing, reaching over to the Lucky Charm's box in front of her. She held it up as if posing for a picture as a joke, cheesing a wide smile.

"Oh my god! Luke wrap your arm around her," Liz fumbled to grab an old style camera, "I want to try taking polaroids."

"Mom," Luke groaned.

Evelyn touched his arm, the light in her face brightening up his whole world, "It's okay Luke. I want to take a picture anyways."

With that, he calmed down, wrapping an arm around her. His eyes connected with hers. Something about her always relaxed her, as though a simple word would make him feel as though he was in heaven.

With wide bright eyes, she mouthed, I love you.

He mouthed back, I love you too.

He turned away and looked back at the camera. Evelyn held the Lucky Charms to her chest, her smile wide.

She rested her head on his chest, her eyes almost shut.

"Alright. Say," Liz laughed, "Say Lucky Charms!"

Luke rubbed her arm slightly, eliciting goosebumps across her body. In unison, they hummed, "Lucky Charms!"

Luke waited patiently on the side, tapping his foot on the floor as he waited for his name to be called.

Maybe I have a slight coffee addiction.

Slight?

Yes slight what is that supposed to mea-

Just then, his phone buzzed. The caller ID clearly showed the name Michael in bold letters.

"Hey mate what's u-"

"Get over here. Right. Now."

Luke paused, just staring at the wall in front of him. His heart was racing at the boy's tone. It was firm, angry, and riled up.
