"Don't be. It's not your fault, Cara."
"I can't help but to feel bad. We even came here to Batanes for the wedding church and reception, but—"
He cut me off. "Don't stress yourself too much, okay?" he said.
I sighed and nodded at him.
"Mom is going to be fine. She's a strong woman, and I believe she did what she did for the best. My mother never makes rash decisions. I'm sure she has a valid reason for delaying the wedding."
And I didn't want to ask Arlo because it was a private matter and I didn't want to pry. It was their family's problem and the only thing that I could do was to be by his side.
She often expressed her desire for the wedding to be perfect. But on the other hand, I also knew Tita Ivy had a good reason for doing what she did.
Arlo was doing everything he could not to show that he was affected by the news. The sadness in his eyes was palpable, yet he kept smiling at me, so I didn't have to worry about him.
I truly accepted his decision if he wasn't yet ready to open up to me.
"Just go ahead. I'm really fine here.
"I'll wait with you until Gael arrives."
"Okay lang talaga ako, Arlo. Mauna ka nang umuwi. Your mom needs you right now." I smiled at him to reassure him that I was fine.
"I'm really sorry, Cara." I held his hand and gently squeezed it.
"Don't be sorry. Wala namang may gusto mangyari 'to... Now go ahead and be with your mom."
