"WELCOME BACK, self," I greeted myself when my plane landed in Manila, after fourteen dreading hours.
When I got off the plane, I did what I needed to do—I grabbed my luggage bags and turned on my phone.
I got a message from Jen on Viber as soon as I opened my phone, saying she was pleased that I'd be back tomorrow. Jen and Tita Mommy had no idea that my flight back to Manila was today. I kept it a secret since I wanted to surprise them tomorrow.
I stopped for a second, and put my thick, wavy hair into a messy bun.
Sobrang init!
I regretted not telling my best friend, Gael, that I was coming back today. At the very least, she could have assisted me with my large luggage bags.
I took a seat in the waiting area to relax for a bit. I'm exhausted, and I didn't get enough sleep on the trip since I was more nervous than thrilled. Sobrang init ngayon at idagdag mo pa na sobrang daming tao.
After collecting my breath, I attempted to hail a cab so that I could sleep and rest at the hotel, but I was unable to do so. There were so many people scrambling to obtain every available cab, and I failed miserably.
Today's plan is to stay in the hotel and surprise Jen and Tita Mommy tomorrow. The reason why I didn't tell them that I was coming back today is that I wanted to take this day for myself first. Gusto ko munang ihanda 'yong sarili ko bago ko harapin ulit sila Jen at Tita Mommy.
It's been a year since I left the country. And now that I'm back, I feel as if I've wasted the whole year I spent running away from agony. Because the minute I returned here, he was all I could think about.
I took off the cardigan that I'm wearing because it was unbearably hot and watch the people rushing to every cab that they can get and feeling for myself instead. Wala na akong energy para makipag-unahan pa. Kahit na kating-kati na akong makapagpahinga.
I sighed for the nth time, feeling dejected when I noticed one of the taxis that pulled right in front of me.
