DRACO'S POV

I was watching Y/n swim before she looked down and quickly disappeared. My eyes widened as I realized she was gone from right in front of me within seconds. I swam quickly over to where she was, trying to find her or any trace of her. But there was nothing. Shit.

I dove down into the dark water and kept swimming further into the darkness. I saw her body sinking. Her skin was reflecting the moon but started fading quickly as she was dragged down farther. She was kicking, struggling, trying to breathe, but she couldn't. Her movements got slower until they stopped. I swam as fast as I could and grabbed her forearm, trying to pull her up. The merpeople had her by her ankles and she couldn't get loose. They started to divert their attention to me, grabbing me and dragging me under. I kicked at them and used wandless spells to try and divert them away from us.

I tried kicking upward, dragging her along with me. Her deadweight was dragging me down and the merpeople were still trying to attack us. I tried to get them off of us, casting spells towards the ones that were scratching at her ankles.

I heard screeching from behind me and as soon as I turned around, it was too late. One of the merpeople came up and scratched my left bicep. I winced and watched as it bled out, mixing with the water around it. I tried to ignore it, but it hurt. I couldn't pull her up, it made me weak.

I was struggling, running out of oxygen and it became more difficult to remain conscious. I was struggling to carry her upward but I wouldn't stop until we broke the surface. I worried I wouldn't make it, but I had to. We had to make it.

A few millimeters away from the surface, I kicked and felt the cool air hit my face. I brought her above the surface near me, but she wasn't breathing. I dragged her towards the shore and laid her body on the ground.

"Don't die, please don't die," I cried out. I tried using wandless charms to get the water out of her lungs, but a significant amount wasn't coming out. She laid there still and lifeless. Her skin started to go pale, her lips light blue, and I felt tears start rolling down my cheeks. "Y/n you can't leave yet, please."

I kept taking out more water, hoping that any second she would come back to life. I was hoping it was all a dream. That I'd wake up in my bed or snap out of it and be standing in Blaise's room, seeing her reading over by the corner of the room. But it wasn't. She was really laying in front of me, dying.

I was shaking, losing hope, just when I watched her flinch. She was coughing or at least trying to. I turned her to her side and saw water come out of her mouth. It all spilled out, yet she remained with her eyes closed and hardly responsive. I picked her up in my arms, carrying her bridal style, and ran towards the hospital wing.

"Madam Pomfrey! Please! She drowned it's an emergency!" I yelled, running through the aisle of hospital beds.

"Down here!" she yelled from one of the beds. I put Y/n down and watched her pale face lay to the side, unable to move it on her own. Madam Pomfrey was using healing spells over her entire body. She tried getting more water out of her lungs using a similar spell that I had used.

I wanted to ask if she'd be okay, if she'd live, but nothing left my mouth. All I could do was stare helplessly at her as Madam Pomfrey tried what she could to save her. She pulled a little bit more water out and then focused on her body. Once she started working on her torso, I looked down and noticed her pants were ripped. She had gashes from the merpeople's nails. They started to become less deep the more magic Madam Pomfrey used, but they still looked terrible.

Y/n had very shallow breaths and I watched as she winced at the pain she felt, but never once did she open her eyes.

"Mr. Malfoy, perhaps you should go back to your dormitory now, it's very late," Madam Pomfrey said to me. I looked up at her and shook my head.
