Dauntless Brothers

[Chapter 6] Capture the Flag.

We're on the train, on our way to play capture the flag. Lauren and Evelyn didn't come. Once the train leaves Dauntless Headquaters I explain things to the initiates.

"We're going to play a game tonight called Capture the Flag. We're not going to be playing it as a game but for the sake of practicing strategy making and team work. The rules are simple. Two teams. The first team to get the other's flag, wins. Tris and I'll be captains."

I wait for her to select her first member but she doesn't, so I say. "Ladies first."

"Henry."

"Kate."

"Emily"

And the list goes on and on and on...

My team is the first one to get off. We walk to one of the buildings and huddle in its shadow to decide on a strategy. Voices start over lapping each other and after a few seconds I raise my voice. "Shut up!" Everyone goes quiet. "One person at a time."

A boy asks me. "Which team were you on during initiation? The winning or loosing team?"

"Winning." I reply.

"What was your strategy?" He asks.

"It wan't mine. It was Tris's. She climbed the ferris wheel so that she could a better vantage point and this way she found out where the other team's flag was." I repy.

"Then she's going to use it again?" He asks and I nod my head in reply.

"We can play around with that strategy." A voice says. I look up to see that it's Kate speaking.

"What do you mean?" I ask her.

"They'll climb the ferris wheel but they won't be able to see the flag." She says. This leaves us even more confused.

"You can see everything for miles from up there." I tell her.

"True. But they won't be able to see it because we'll conceal it real well." She says and this makes me nod in understanding. What she's saying just might work.

"We'll can try that. But how do you plan on doing that?" I ask her.

"Hide it in a building of course!" She exclaims, pointing towards the one we're standing next to.

We all stand guard while Kate and the boy go in to put up the flag. When they come back out we move towards the other's flag. We know where it is because it's right out in the open for everyone to see. I know that Tris is not someone who can be this reckless. This is what worries me that the other have a bigger plan than us.

After a few minutes we step into a clearing, no one is in sight. The flag is flapping from the top of the building. All of us start towards it but before any of us can enter it.

Cheers errupt from the very place where we hid our flag. We all run back to the building where we hid the flag.

The other team's gathered outside it and Henry has the flag in his hands. They all 'boo' when we walk up to them. Tris is talking to Uriah, who came along. Henry walks up to Kate and she congradulates him. This makes me sick so I walk on.

I sit down on a huge rock and wait for the others to get over with the excitment. After a few minutes Tris breaks away from the group and walks up to me.

"Congrats!" I say to her.

"Thanks. You guys almost ruined our plan but I could see the flag reflection in the window of the building." She tells me smiling. She looks cute when she smiles.

Before I can say anything everyone starts walking towards the tracks and I follow. We get back on the train and on our way back to Dauntless Headquaters.
