Tris and I are one of the first few to leave the dance. We catch the train back to Dauntless Headquaters. We sit together near the edge, with Tris leaning against me.

"I can't believe all this happened in one night," she says softly.

I sigh and nod, "Yeah me neither." With this we both go back to sitting in silence. When the roof comes into view, we both get to our feet and jump. Tris first and me after her. We both run a few steps before coming to a stop.

She turns towards me and puts her arms around my neck and I put mine around her waist, drawing her to me.

"This night was the best one of my life," I tell her.

She smiles and agrees, "Yeah. Me too."

With she reaches up and kisses me and I don't hesitate to do the same. When we pull away her face catches the light of the moon and that's when my thought is confirmed. She is the most beautiful person.

She kisses my cheek before turning towards the net and jumping. I do the same. I walk her back to her apartment.

We're about to say good bye when he door opens to reveal Caleb standing there.

"What are you doing here?" he asks, his question directed at me.

"He just came to drop me off." She speaks up for me.

"Shut up! Can't he speak for himself? What? Cat got your tongue?" He sneers at me.

Before I can stop myself, I slam him against the wall by his shirt and warn him. "If you ever dare intefere in my buisnness. Then you and I are going to have a problem."

Caleb as the coward he is at once puts his hands up and says, "I was just kidding, man. I didn't know you would get so serious."

I let go of him, saying. "Good. That's exactly what I thought."

I turn to Tris and give her a quick kiss before saying good bye and walking away. I go back to my own apartment and open the door.

Everyone's in the living room waiting for me. Of course. Eric has a look on his face that words can't explain. Marcus looks as if he's about to burst and Evelyn has a stern look. I can't believe she's the same person who told me to "have fun" just hours ago.

I start to walk towards my room but Marcus comes to stand in front of me.

"Did you have fun?" He asks. I nod and try to force my way through but he does not budge.

"Not so fast. What were you doing with Tris Prior?" He says her name as if she's not a person but a thing.

The one thing I can't let my family control is my relationship with Tris. "Don't you dare say her name like that."

Marcus sneers at me, "Or what? What are you going to do?"

I'm about to open my mouth to spill Eric's secret when Marcus slaps me across the face and shouts. "How dare you speak back at me?!"

He roughly pushes me back but I manage to stay put, this angers him even more. He takes hold of my shirt and punch me in the stomach. I double over in pain and feel someone kick my leg which makes me tople over.

I don't care about how much pain I'll have to bear.

All I care about is Tris.

My love.

My only hope of freedom.
