Eric gave me this long lecture on how I should act like an instructor and stop falling in love with your students. He at first threatened to tell dad about this. But I completely ignored it. Then he threatened to throw Kate out of Dauntless.

This scared me because I knew that Eric always sticks to his word. One reason for him saying that was so that none of the other initiates feel that she has an advantage over everyone else. But the major reason is because non of girls like him. So, he can't see me happy with one of them either.

I look at Kate, who's warming up just like everyone else. But for me she stands out of the group. After about ten minutes, Eric strolls in and stops next to me.

"Kate vs Henry!" He announces and points towards the ring.

This means that they have to fight. Henry's a good looking guy. The best in the group if you ask  me but right now his body structure is not in Kate's favour.

They face each other. Henry throws the first punch which she neatly dodges. But the next one catched catches her squarely in the jaw. This makes me wince. Eric smirks at me and I want to punch him. Kate stumbles but almost at once gains her balance. Then what follow is a miracle. Henry punches but she ducks and throws all her weight against him. He hits his head on the edge and the impact makes him go unconcious. This makes Kate the winner.

A Candor transfer, Emily whose become Kate's close friends moves over to her throws her arms around Kate.

"That was amazing!" She remarks.

"Alright guys! Day two is over! Two more days of combat and then we move on to the next thing in this stage." I announce.

I go to the infimary to check on Henry but Kate beat me to it. She's already there. by his bed.

"What are you doing here?" I ask her.

"I had to make sure that he was okay." She tells me.

This is something that a Stiff would do but that is not how I look at it. I like how she cares about others. This is exactly what Dauntless is supposed to be about too. But now we're just a group of warriors, that's it. I go to the nurse and ask for an ice pack. Now with this I go back to the room and give it to Kate, who gives me a grateful smile and presses it to her bruised jaw.

I sit there for a moment staring at my sneakers. But a questions keeps bothering me. How could someone as strong as Henry loose to someone as fragile as Kate? And then it hits me. It must be because he likes her! I feel really frustrated because now I have competition.

After a few more minutes I leave the infirmary and go to my apartment. I open the door to find Eric sitting on the couch staring at a piece of paper. When he sees me come in, he at once shoves it into his pocket and goes to his room.

Eric hardly ever takes his duties seriously and today he has a paper with him. Wierd. I go to my room and take of my jacket. I'm about to take off my shoes when I hear the front door open and then close.

I find Eric's room empty meaning that he's gone. I see that he left the black coat he was wearing on the bed. Invading someone's privacy is one thing that my parent's taught me not to do. But Eric has made me curious enough to go check what it is. I forget all the lectures and punishments and go in.

I put my hand into the pocket and fish out the paper. It's folded in half, so I cannot see what it is. I unfold it, only to get the biggest shock of my life. I never expected my brother of all people to have this. Never in a million years would I have imagined that this day would come.

The paper isn't Eric's work!

It's someone picture!

And that someone is TRIS!
