Like all other Thursday nights I'm sitting in my usual seat working on the computer. Every Thursday and Sunday it's my duty in the control room.
There are still five minutes left before my shift starts but I'm here because the guy who has his shift before me had plans. His name is Will and he most probably had a date with his girlfriend, Christina. She's Tris's bestfriend.
I haven't really spoken to Tris since that night. A smile when we pass each other or a slight greeting is all there is between us.
Even though we're friends now, things don't seem to be much different than they were before.
Eric walks in with Max and some of his other buddies. I don't think he's forgotten what happened in the alley the other day. They all stand talking in a group. Once in a while one of the goes to his computer, checks it and then comes back.
I leave to them to themselves and turn my attention back to the screen.
I open the tab which shows me the Fence. The guards are positioned at equal distance from each other. I switch cameras as I scout the whole area.
I'm half way through, when Eric decides that it's his turn to check his computer. I watch him walk over to his seat and scan the screen. He's about to walk back when something catches his attention.
This worries me because hardly anything catches his attention. Well, maybe except Tris.
He calls out my name. "Tobias!" He does not look up from this screen. The only differene is that he's smirking.
This can't be good.
I take a deep breath and ask. "What?"
"I'm sending you something. Check it out." He tells me.
Almost at the same time a message pops up on my screen telling me to view a certain camera's footage.
I scroll through the list of cameras till I find the one I want and open it. At first it's just an empty hallway but then two people walk in.
My eyes are glued to the screen. Henry and Kate are laughing at something. The others go back to talking. I turn the volume up, so that no one except me can hear what they're saying.
"I can't believe you did that to your sister." Kate says, laughing.
"But she totally deserved it." Henry replies.
With this they both fall into silence. I feel like picking up the computer and throwing it across the room. But I keep myself from doing this.
Henry steps closer to Kate. With every step he takes, my dinner moves further up my throat. I know what's going to happen but I keep watching.
Kate covers the rest of the distance and their lips meet. At the same moment I'm out of the door and rush to the bathrooms. I lean over the sink just in time, as I throw up.
Once everything's out, I feel weak and I don't know why, Vulnerable. I leave the bathroom and instead of going to the control room, I go to the apartment.
I run into Evelyn just as she's closing the door.
"I hope you're not running away from girls again." Her tone is threatning.
Without saying anything, I go in and make my way to my bedroom. Once the door's securely closed and locked.
I let out a loud and frustrated scream. I pick up my chair and slam it into the wall. It at once breaks into two pieces. It feels good to break it because I know that I do have power over something.
But my mind keeps wondering back to the same thing.
No one loves me.
No one loves me.
No one loves me.
I'm so sorry that I'm updating after such a long time.
But I have exams and really need to focus on my studies. But I promise that I'll try and update as soon as possible :)
