My alarm starts to ring. I turn it off and go back to sleeping. After a few minutes there is knocking on the door and Evelyn's voice reaches my ears. "Tobias! Get up! Initiation starts today!"

I grudgingly get up and make my way to the bathroom. I get into the shower. After taking a long shower I change into a pair of back jeans, a black shirt and a black sweater. It's been two years since I chose Dauntless and found out that I'm Divergent. I came first in rankings but chose to be an instructor of transfers. During the rest of the year, I work in the control room. My mother works with me. Marcus and Eric are faction leaders.

I go down to the hall where we eat all three meals. I spot my best friend, Zeke sitting at a table with his girlfriend, Shauna. They're sitting opposite to each other. So, I sit down next to him. "Ready for the next batch?" He asks.

"I've only trained one so far." I remind him. "Right." He says. I help myself to some pancakes. I'm halfway through when someone bumps into my back making me drop my fork. I turn around to see who it is at the same time as she does.

She starts to apologize but stops when she sees that it's me and walks off to her friends who are sitting on the table next to ours. All of us were in the same batch of initiates.

"What's wrong with that girl?" Shauna remarks. I start to talk but Zeke cuts in saying. "We know. We know. Something happened between your parents and hers. But what does that have to do with the two of you? I mean you and Tris are the next generation." "It's more than just our parent's fight. The hatred's in our blood." I explain.

Just as I say these words, I know that they're a lie. I hate Tris because I was forced to, not that I want to. Since we were children, we were told to turn our backs on each other and to take  different route if the other was coming that way. If it weren't for our parents things might be different.

I'm the first one to finish and leave Zeke and Shauna to themselves. I go the dorm where the transfers will be sleeping to see that everything's in order. Evelyn is there. "Which of us is going to give them the tour?"  I ask leaning against one of the bunks. "Last time it was me. This time it'll be you." "Fine." After a few minutes of silence she says something that irritates me more than even the Prior family.

"Just the image of Eric calling the names at the choosing cermony makes me feel proud." Out of me and Eric, he's the one who's liked the most and my parents would do anything to see him succeed. For them I'm the underdog. I leave the room and go to the Pit, this is where Zeke and I hang out when we have free time.

I see Tris and Lauren talking. Most probably about initiation. That's because they instruct the Dauntless borns. Max, Eric's bestfriend walks over to me and hands me a black folder.  "We've changed two of the rules." He tells me before walking towards the other two instructors. I open the folder to find two points printed on paper.

1. No one concedes from a fight. The fight will end when one of them gets knocked out. (1st stage)

2. The simulation results cannot entered manually. (2nd stage)

This means that the Divergent will be out in the open for everyone to see. I know that Tris is Divergent too. I look at her to see her reaction. We look at each other at the same time and our eyes meet. We look away almost at once but not before I saw shock and anger in her eyes.

Lauren shouts to me. "Four! They're on the train!" This means that it's time to go to the net. After getting there we have to wait for a few minutes, during which I fill in Evelyn on the change in the rules. She seems to be satisfied.

Eric's unmistakable voice makes our heads snap upwards. But we can't see anything except the hole in the roof. After a few seconds a gre figure lands on the net. It's a girl from Abnegation.

I reach out and pull her off. "What's your name?" I ask her. "Katherine." She replies. "You don't get to choose again." I tell her. "Kate." She replies almost at once. "First jumper, Kate!" I announce and the Dauntless behind me cheer for her. Once everyone's down I see that there are 12 Dauntless Borns and 15 transfers. That's the most we've ever had. Plus, the first stiff I'll get to train.

Tris introduces us. "I'm Tris. This is Lauren, Four and Evelyn. Lauren and I will be working with the dauntless borns. The rest of you with Four and Evelyn. The dauntless borns don't need a tour. So, be in the hall by one hour. The rest of you will be given a tour." With this everyone leaves and I'm left with my initiates.

I show them the Chasm, the Pit and the Hall. Then I take them to the dorm and tell them to get changed and come for lunch.

They sit down at the table where Zeke and I are sitting. Kate is the one who sits next to me. I didn't give her that much attention in her plain Abnegatin clothes but now she's wearing black jeans and a black hoodie. Her dark dark brown hair is drawn back into a sleek ponytail.

I know that I'm her instructor and that I just met her but I think that I'm falling for her.
