We begin in Alola as we go to a young man, running in a forest with his Pokémon, Dartrix. Seems as though they're training.
???: Dartrix! Razor Leaf!
Dartrix uses Razor Leaf, hitting tree by tree as the young man was really excited.
???: Great work! Dartrix, you're doing great!
This young boy is Hau. He's currently training on Melemele Island with his partner, Dartrix.
Hau: Let's keep it up, together! And then let's beat my gramps at his best, Dartrix!
Dartrix smiles as it brushes its feathers. It was then that Hau sees him fire off Razor Leaf in a direction near some bushes as Hau heard some voices. The Razor Leaf then went past the bushes as Hau went over to see a boy, A Pikachu and a Rotom Dex pinned to some trees while they see a man up the tree's branches.
Hau: What are you doing?
Rotom: Hello, zzt...
Ash and Gino: Alola...
He then saw the other young boy and the man both had a Z Ring on their wrist.
Hau: A Z-Ring! Wow!
Ash: W-What?
Hau: Can you use Z-Moves? Did you take my gramp's Grand Trial?!
Ash, Pikachu, and Rotom then got unpinned from the trees as Gino jumps down from the tree. Hau then explains to them why he's so jittery about the Z Rings and explains to them what he meant by 'Gramps'.
Ash: I see. So Hala's your grandfather.
Gino was surprised by the information that he fell to his knees is disappointment.
Gino: Whelp... There goes my hopes and dreams.
Hau: You're so lucky to have taken his Grand Trial. I wanna battle my gramps at his best, too.
Ash: If he's your grandfather, then I'm sure he'd battle you if you just asked him.
Hau: No, not at all. He says that, as we are now, he can't give his best against us yet. Right, Dartrix?
Dartrix: Koo!
Ash: I see.
Hau: I've been living away from Alola with my dad for a long time now. We came back not too long ago, and now I can finally take the Island Pilgrimage!
Gino: Really? You can do it!
Hau: And since I really wanna do my gramp's Grand Trial first, I'm training here. Did you come to train, too?
Ash: We're exploring. There's still loads of places on Melemele Island that we hadn't been to.
Gino: Then we found you two.
Ash: Dartrix was so cool that I forgot to say hi, and just stopped to watch.
Hau: Isn't it? I'm really proud of Dartrix!
Dartrix: Koo!
Ash: Dartrix is Rowlet's evolved form, right?
Rotom: Stop right there! This is where I come in, zzt! Dartrix. Blade Quill Pokémon. Grass/Flying type. It throws sharp feathers called blade quills at enemies or prey. A bit of a dandy, it spends its free time preening its wings.
Ash: Let me introduce... my partner, Rowlet!
Hau: It's sound asleep!
Ash: This is his favorite spot.
