Gino walks down the tunnel that would lead him to the battlefield. The sunlight at the end of the tunnel was bright, and he could hear the frantic cheering from thousands of spectators that were waiting for him, especially Guzma.
Flashback
Guzma: The Pokemon League will be nothing but schoolyard fights between weaklings. I'll wreck the League itself while all of Alola's watching!
Flashback end
With that in mind, Gino puts his notebook closer to him as he steps out into the battlefield.
Jikyo: The second match of the semifinals... Contestant Guzma vs...
A loud yell and cheers exploded from the crowd where Team Skull was at when Guzma walks out.
Jikyo: Contestant Gino!
The two of them stand across the battlefield from each other. Guzma notices that Gino wasn't his happy and energetic self that he usually sees on the field, instead he looked very nervous. That was what he wanted.
Nanu: Same rules as in the first semifinal match! Over! You both ready?
Nanu glances at both sides, who simply nod as the take out each of their Poke balls.
Gino: Kirlia, come out!
Gino sent out Kirlia who twirls around happily. She will be facing against Guzma's Scizor.
Nanu: Let the match... begin!
Gino: Let's go, Kirlia. Psybeam!
The battle starts, as Kirlia charges Psybeam towards Scizor.
Guzma: U-Turn.
Gino narrowed his eyes as he watches Scizor uses U-Turn, who punches Kirlia with one of its pincers. Kirlia immediately recovers and attempts to use Psybeam again, but Scizor is taken back into its Poke ball, and Golisopod is sent out, who immediately shields itself from the attack.
Jikyo: Oh, my! Contestant Guzma immediately recalls Scizor using U-Turn! It looks like Contestant Gino doesn't look very happy about that.
Guzma: Liquidation.
Golisopod proceeds to execute Liquidation on Kirlia, who easily dodges the attack. Gino lets out a huff.
Guzma: Wrap this up quick and pain-free! Liquidation!
Golisopod lunges at Kirlia and goes to repeat the same attack, but Kirlia jumps away to avoid the attack.
Gino: Use Disarming Voice!
Guzma: Throat Chop!
Golisopod suddenly disappeared within a flash and reappears in front of Kirlia, attempting to use Throat Chop on it.
Gino: Oh, no! Counter with Psybeam!
Kirlia shot Psybeam at Golisopod, clashing with Throat Chop. As he expected, Kirlia was overpowered by Golisopod as it sent Kirlia flying away. Gino catches Kirlia before she went any further.
Gino: Are you alright?
Gino asked calmly, which his Pokemon nods in response and quickly gets up to her feet.
Gino: Good. Another Psybeam!
Guzma: Liquidation!
The two Pokemon charge at each other with their own attacks, and begin clashing multiple times. However, at the last minute, Golisopod reflects Kirlia's leg away and goes to attack it.
Guzma: Liquidation!
Golisopod uses Liquidation and swung it at Kirlia, who barely dodges.
Gino: Disarming Voice!
