Another day at the Pokémon School and Professor Kukui walks into the classroom.

Professor Kukui: Alola!

All: Alola!

Professor Kukui: Today's class will be on Poké-Ping Pong! And here is your special teacher...

Illma: Hello, it's me, Illma. I look forward to working with you again today.

Sophocles: Alright! It's Illma!

Ash: But why is he teaching us?

Mallow: Illma has won plenty of tournaments!

Lana: He's really good!

Illma: Well then, first let me explain the rules. Poké-Ping Pong is and Ping Pong game where trainers and their Pokémon play together as a pair. You start with a server. You make the ball bounce on your own side of the field, before sending it over to the opponent's field in a diagonal line. If it doesn't bounce on the opponent's side of the field, it won't count. And then the opponent hits the ball back. Here, too, the ball has to bounce once on the opponent's side of the field or it won't count. This is where the sender changes. The trainer and their Pokémon have to take turns sending and receiving.

Gino: I'm not sure I get it...

Illma: It's easier to show you than to explain. You can watch me play. Lana, would you be my opponent?

Lana: Yes!

Lana and Illma get onto opposite sides of the Ping Pong table

Mallow: Do your best, Lana!

Illma: Well then... Here I come!

Illma tossed out a Pokeball and a Smeargle popped out.

Ash: His partner's Smeargle!

Rotom: Smeargle. Painter Pokémon. Normal type. The unique symbols each Smeargle creates are painted using the fluid that oozes from its tail. This is how it marks its territory.

Illma: You start by making a serve.

Illma serves the ball towards Lana. Lana hits the ball to Smeargle, and Smeargle hit it to Popplio. Popplio hit the ball back to Illma.

Illma: Pokémon can use a racket, a part of their body, or even a special move to return the ball. Anything goes.

Ash: Awesome!

Lillie: Lana and Popplio are quite skilled too!

Rotom: All data on Poké-Ping Pong has been recorded, zzt! Games consist of three matches, each lasting until one side has 11 points. Whichever side wins two matches wins, zzt!

Illma: Now then, why don't you all give it a try?

Ash: Alright!

Poké- Ping Pong, a game played through trainers and Pokémon working together... It seems the Pokémon have gotten quite used to it as well. Ash and Kiawe were playing a match but it looks like it's not going as they planned.

Ash: It's no fun to hit the ball back and forth...

Kiawe: Then let's get a real game going!

Ash: Alright! Pikachu, smash!

Pikachu used Iron Tail to hit the ball, but it accidentally hit Ash in the face.

Kiawe: A-Are you alright?

Ash: I'm fine, I'm fine! We'll get it right next time! Now, bring it!

Kiawe: S-Sure. Here I come!
