We start off in Alola with showing Detective Lucky as he is filming a scene near the edge of a cliff.
Laki: Indeed! That was when the criminal made a fatal mistake!
Man: How can you tell?
Laki: This isn't the first time I've solved a case through traces a Pokémon left behind at the scene of the crime. Isn't that right, Smeargle?
Smeargle: Smeargle!
Laki: In that revolting Mermaid's Necklace case, Pikipek's feather being left on the crime scene provided me with a vital hint, and this time...
Rotom: That's wrong, zzt!
Laki: Huh?
All of a sudden, we see Rotom as he flew in front of Lucky's face.
Rotom: The vital clue in the Mermaid's Necklace case... wasn't Pikipek's feather, but Trumbeak's, zzt!
Man: C-Cut!
Gino has gone with Ash as they and their Pokémon are watching a shooting of the popular TV show, Alolan Detective Laki. Now it seems like Rotom has disturbed the recording.
Woman: You can't just barge in like that! The cameras are rolling!
Ash: I'm sorry!
Gino: Hey, Rotom! What are you doing?!
Rotom: I'm sure, zzt! In season 2, episode 6, "The Mermaid's Necklace Case", Pikipek dropping the Trumbeak feather it was wearing proved vital in determining the criminal's identity, zzt!
Man: Check it.
Man 2: Y-Yes!
The man checks through a previous script of that episode and found it shocking.
Man 2: It's true! It was a Trumbeak's feather that was dropped in season 2, episode 6!
Woman: I'm so sorry! I didn't go back to check!
Ash: Really? Nothing gets past you, Rotom!
Rotom: Such is to be expected of any true Alolan Detective Laki fan, zzt!
Laki: Oh? Well then... In season 1, episode 8... What Pokémon did the client have?
Rotom: A Umbreon, zzt!
Laki: Who was the villain in season 3, episode 11?
Rotom: Sam, the director, zzt!
Laki: What's my catchphrase?!
Rotom: You may be able to fool most people... But the eyes of Laki and the sea of Alola see all! Resolution rate: 100%! Alolan Detective Laki's deductions... are never wrong!
Laki: You really are a fan of this show! Thank you!
Rotom: I got to shake hands with the real Laki, zzt!
Gino: Rotom, you can't get in the way of the filming!
Ash grabs Rotom as he struggles to get free.
Ash: We'll leave now!
Man: Good! No worries!
Ash: Huh?
Man: I'm the producer of Alolan Detective Laki... George Charanpino! It's a pleasure to meet you!
He hands Ash a business card as he takes a look at it.
George: Really, you're good! No worries! A person... or Pokémon, rather... A Pokémon this fascinating... is a rare sight to see! Would you like to be in Alolan Detective Laki?
