Twins are 2 years old now
Katsuki POV
I was sitting with the kids in the playroom. Y/n had gone to work and I was filling out villain reports we were backed up on.
The kids were sitting on the floor in the middle of the room playing with blocks. Spicy liked to build things and Sweet enjoyed playing with his sister. Their tower was getting increasingly taller and I kept looking up to make sure they weren't doing anything stupid.
KoKo tried to put another block on top and she couldn't reach it so Kita had the smart idea to get one of their table chairs and stand on it. No surprise but he fell and started crying. What a damn minute...I can hear him crying.
His voice came out soft and small but it was his. I ran over and picked him up looking into his eyes. He sniffed and pouted so I sat down with him, giving him a hug.
"Kita where does it hurt?" He pointed to his knee and sniffed again. I rubbed it to make him feel better and then I tried something. "Kitaro, can you say knee?" He looked at me and started to move his hands and I shook my head and pointed to his mouth.
"Knee..." he said and then gasped surprised at his own voice. I nodded to encourage him and he pointed at me. "Daddy." And then he pointed at Spicy. "KoKo!" Even though he thought he was shouting, his voice wasn't much louder than a normal volume then.
I smiled at him and KoKo caught on and smiled too. I got my phone, figuring y/n needed to see this ASAP. I flipped the camera to selfie mode and told the kids we were going to talk to mommy. I FaceTimed her and she picked up after a while.
"Hey babe. We got a surprise for you," I said with a smirk. Kita covered his mouth to keep the surprise but he was squirming with giggles next to his sister who was the same thing.
"Ok what is it?" Y/n asked looking between all of us expectantly. I poked KoKo and she pouted at me before waving at the camera.
"Hi mommy," she said with a bright smile. Y/n giggled and waved too. Then I looked at Kita and he waved at the camera too.
"Hi mommy." Y/n stared at the camera and I saw tears in her eyes. Kita's faced dropped and he started signing that he was sorry. Y/n giggled and shook her head.
"No baby don't be sorry. But you really just... Katsuki when did this happen?" She said wiping her tears and turning her face to me. I shrugged.
"Just now, I thought you'd like to see it. Well hear it," I said with a smile as I pulled both kids closer to me. Y/n sniffed in happiness and turned back to Kitaro.
"Kita baby I'm so proud of you. I love you sweetie," she said. I could hear the crack in her voice but I wouldn't point it out in front of the kids. Kita got up close to the camera and kissed the screen.
"I wuv 'ou," he said while also signing the words. She smiled and blew kisses back. Nyoko waved bye enthusiastically and then we hung up. I looked down to Kita who was smiling in my arms.
"Alright, let's see how many words you know."
A week later....
Y/n POV
Today we were going to the doctors to medically confirm that Kita was ok. For the past week we have been getting him to talk, but sometimes he still uses sign language which we also encouraged because that just meant he was bilingual and was comfortable with whichever.
We sat in the doctors office after Kita had gotten an ultrasound of his throat. The twins were playing on the floor with the wood box with the wires and blocks on it, and when the doctor came in, Nyoko came to sit with me and Kita stood up and smiled.
"Well hello there young man," the doctor said with a wise old smile. Kita waved and Dr. laughed heartily before turning to us.
"So the ultra sound looks good. The lack of speech from him was caused by his vocal cords being underdeveloped for some unknown reason but they've come in now and he will be able to speak from now on. The first few weeks his voice is going to be low and small but he should be able to shout from the top of his lungs in a few months."
Katsuki and I laughed nervously at the prospect of having two screaming toddlers in the house, but we were still glad that we could hear our baby's beautiful voice. The doctor wanted to test his volume and vocabulary a bit so he turned to Kitaro.
"And what is your name?" Kita looked back at us and then at his hands. He has been signing and speaking at the same time recently but again we encourage it because its a good skill.
"Kitawo Ba'ugo" he said confidently with a smile and I almost cried again. Katsuki put his arm around my shoulder and squeezed. Even Nyoko noticed her brother had done something new and good so she clapped for him, making Kita giggle.
The doctor tested him some more, having him say each of our names and then random objects like bottle, food, toy, some colors, some numbers, etc. KoKo thought it was a game, so she joined in and the doctor played along. By the time we were done, the doctor was very impressed.
"You two did an excellent job of raising them, their vocabulary is quite expansive for two year olds," he said with a smile. Katsuki and I hugged each other, feeling like we succeeded at adulting.
We took the kids out for ice cream after that, which in hind sight was a bad idea. We arrived home, sticky and sugar high, but we let the kids expend all that energy on the new playground.
After a long day we got the kids bathed, dressed, and tucked in. Before we left, Kita stood up and waved from his crib.
"Ni ni Mama, Dadda. I wuv 'ou," he said all sleepy smiley. I blew a kiss and Katsuki waved and thankfully we got out of there before my child could see me cry.
When we got back to our room, Katsuki held me and kissed my forehead.
"Did you ever doubt him?" He said with a smirk. I shook my head.
"Never."
