MELANIE RICHARDS

“Niall.”

“Yeah?” His smooth Irish accent voice strokes my whole body. It sounds fluffy and cuddly.

“Tell me about your lover back then.” I make circles on his t-shirt that covered his chest. I still can hear his heartbeat making loud barks and it feels nothing but music to my ears. I smile at the sound of it and hold him even closer.

“Uhm, I got a crush on someone named Alice. She’d always been there for me, she’s, uhm. . . Just—Alice.” He nods.

“Tell me about your story with her.” I command.

“I have no story with her. She had a crush on me too, but I left Ireland to school here that’s why we’ve never had the chance to actually confess to each other.” He shrugs, without looking at me.

“Do you still like her?”

“I don’t know,” He says as I close my eyes, attempting my ears to detect more of his inner voice. “Tell me about yours.”

“What do you want to know?” I ask him back.

“About Nathan, about every guy you hooked up with. Miles.” He shrugs.

“Well, I had a boyfriend, his name is Gale. He’s a dick. We’d been together for 10 months I guess, he forced me into everything. I almost gave my virginity for him.” I take a deep breath. “I'm still a virgin." I chuckle nervously. "By the way, he beated me up, he hurt me. He did things to me.” My voice gets shaky. “Uhm,” I mumble. “I got bruises all over my face." I whisper, looking around but his face.

“I wanted to break up with him, but I couldn’t. I hate him but I couldn’t let him go. He cheated on me a lot, and he compared me to every single girls he hooked up with.” I let my voice gets deeper and lower and smaller. “Then there was Nathan. I was a really close friends with him. Not a kind of a friendzone kind of thing. He was the one to convince me to break up with Gale. He made me feel like he was the safe haven for me. The kind of love story I would live up with. But the next day, he’s gone. He told me that he was going to Boston. Then, I was all confused. When he arrived in Boston, I visited him with my friend, Jane. And when I got there, there he was with another girl named Kelis.

“He said Kelis is the girl everyone loves. She’s beautiful though, she’s amazing. So, he left me, I was all devastated over him.” I exhale and lick my lips parted. I sit up, detach his inner invisible voice from my ear and sit back on the couch. “And then, well, Miles.” I shake my head. “Luckily I didn’t get the chance to actually like him that much. Then I figured, that love is just this circle going up and down with no finish line.” I gesture my index finger in a circle motion. “Or maybe, that I’m just not good enough for anyone.” I smile.

He looks at the ground, avoiding any eye contacts with me with his fingers trailing down his brunette hair.

“What’s wrong?”

“Look, Gale and Nathan both is a dick. And so is Miles. Especially Gale.” He starts to shout, making me jump. “I promise you, the next time I saw him, I will tear his body apart. I promise.” He says. I almost laugh at his remark, but seeing him like this, he’s dead serious. I really want to hug him but I hold the crave to myself.

“Thankyou, but it’s over. It has been a year ago.” I stroke his hair on the back of his head.

“You were 16! You were just this little girl that still was learning how to love.”

“It’s over, Niall.”

“I know, but I just can’t stand a cocksucker like him.” He sounded like Nathan. The memories hit me all over again. Niall would be the third guy that would hurt me. “So you wouldn’t want to give another chance to guys?”

“I don’t know. I’m afraid that they would end up pretty much the same.” I bite my lip. I don’t want to be hurt all over again. I better leave myself alone.

“Well, you just got to believe, there will always be someone who would treat you right.” He gives me a reassuring smile. “What about your guy friend? Jamie right?”

“He’s my bestfriend. And so are you.”

 He nods.

“Are we done with the heart-to-heart situation? I’m tired of life.” I remark as I chuckle.

He laughs. “You want to do something?”

I timidly smile. “We should hang out more.” I wink.

“Uh, what about tomorrow?” He asks.

“After school? You should pick me up. We can go to Taco Bell!” I raise my voice.

“Of course. It’s a date then.”

“Oh, no—It’s only—“

“Just kidding.” He teasingly laughs.

“Really funny, Irish guy.” I stick my tongue out to mock him.

“Don’t underestimate Ireland. You should go there sometimes. It’s great place.” He assures me.

“Right, of course. Whatever.” I roll my eyes right after a beep cooes from my phone. I grab my phone from the coffee table then swipe the screen. “It’s Jamie.”

Where are you? I had a talk with Nathan. I need to talk to you. Right away. ASAP.”
