MELANIE RICHARDS

2 WEEKS LATER. . .

"Thomas," I rest my head on his shoulder as I hold his hand. "I'm going to miss you." I say as I feel my eyes are watering. "Why can't you let me go to your funeral?"

"Because, I don't want to. If it's my birthday party and I would be happy to, but it's my fucking funeral, Lenny." He says in his breaking voice. "It's going to be in a little town far from London, anyway." He looks away, avoiding my eyes.

"Then we only have two days." I rest my chin on his shoulder.

I've been through with him for the past one month. During his fever nights, his pain attack when he was too tired and I got too afraid when he passed out and I forced myself to be awake for the whole night to watch him. We celebrated thanksgiving with his grandpa and Louis, cooking together and messed the whole food and kitchen. And he came to my family christmas gathering, which he got me a red sweater from GAP then I gave him my favorite charm bracelet, well at least he wanted it. He said, "So there will be a part of you that will follow me into my grave." I broke down crying in front of him as we cuddled up together, watching movies.

I haven't thought of Niall for a while, but I know he's somewhere deep down in my heart.

"But I will be up there, waiting for you." He says, a tear flows down his cheek as I wipe them off of his cheek. "Lenny, you are one amazing person. I care about you and I want you to know that, I want you to be happy." He says as his voice becomes to shake.

"I'm happy now, with you." I look at his pale face. I notice that his face is even more paler than before and the circle red stains are spreading like crazy, reached the back of his neck. I forced him not to come out in a cold night air, but he insisted. I hug him from the cold winter air and the snow falling on us as we sit down on the bench in my backyard. "Hey, it's 1 more hour until new year." I chuckle.

"We should go upstairs." He says as the crowd fills my house. My mom is throwing a new year party that includes our family and friends, well, my mom's friends. I lead Thomas from the crowd as a hand pokes my shoulder. I turn around to see Nathan.

"Hey." He smiles.

"I'll be up!" Thomas shouts and runs upstairs, leaving me with the crowd and Nathan. I feel nothing towards Nathan and I'm actually glad that he's here in my mom's gathering party.

"Hey, Nathan. What's up?" I raise my brows and shrugs.

"I'm going to leave in the morning and, I just wanted to say goodbye because, I'm actually moving to Australia." He chuckles.

"Nathan, that's wonderful! You always wanted to go to Sidney!" I put my palm over my chest.

"Yeah, actually it's Gold Coast." He corrects me and laughs. "Well, where's Niall?" He suddenly asks.

"Oh, we. . . we broke up." I nod, looking away.

He mumbles, following my gaze on the floor. "You should be with him. He's the right one." He assures me. What? He despises Niall and he what? He did not just say that.

"I'm sorry, what?"

"You should be with him, Melanie. I came all the way here to pull you guys together, you guys kind of, meant to be together I guess—"

"Are you drunk?" I cut him off.

"No, just," He sighs. "Your guy is always around, and he's the guy." He shakes his head.

"Well, sure, whatever." I shrug and chuckle. "I got to go. Bye, Nate." I hug him and run upstairs to catch Thomas. "Goodluck in Australia. Keep in touch!" I shake my head, not bothering to look down at him.

"It's a part of the plan!" He shouts at me as I run through the flight of stairs. He's drunk. Totally.

I make my way to my room and see Thomas sitting on my bed. I turn on the heater and put off my coat and my jacket as I lay down on my bed with Thomas. We decide to watch New Year show live from the tv. I switch to MTV and when Ed Sheeran with Thinking Out Loud comes from the screen, the flash of Niall comes through my head.

"Thomas, dance with me." I gesture him to stand up. And he obeys as he laughs, reaching to me. I wrap my arms around his neck. "We didn't get the chance to dance together in prom." I chuckle as I move our feet in sync.

"You're a good dancer, alright." He says while leaning in and have my head for his chin to rest. I giggle and rest my head on the crook of his neck.

"Maybe it's a part of the plan, well I'll just keep on making the same mistakes. Hoping that you'll understand. . ." I sing and I can't keep the thought of Niall from my head. The way he sang to me that day.

"You have a great voice, too!" Thomas leans back and laughs at me.

"Thank you." I laugh with him. He leads me to bed as he reaches the tv to change it to the new year countdown live show.

"I care about you, Tom. You're more than just a brother to me. You're one of the best thing that ever happened to me." I sigh.

"You too, Lenny. Sometimes I wish I never met you." He looks away. I look down before flickering my eyes to Thomas.

"You should be my guardian angel." I tease him.

"You already has one, Lenny." He strokes my hair. At first, I thought he is talking about himself. But the look on his eyes is telling me that he's talking about someone else.

Since I know that he will be gone forever, I think I shouldreally tell him my feelings to him. I love Thomas, my love for Thomas isn't the same like my love to Niall's. But, I do. I love him. I flicker my eyes to the tv that is counting down to new year.
