MELANIE RICHARDS

The very next day, I wake up by the alarm I made for school days. It’s Monday and I’m deadly tired. I take a look at the mirror in front of my bed. I look like shit already. The big circles beneath my eyes and the big swollen eyes I made last night despite everything I’ve been through yesterday. I hope it was just a dream but it’s nearly impossible.

I make my way up to the door then down the stairs to make myself a breakfast. I walk in my best lazy way and not darting my eyes anywhere instead of the fridge. I open the fridge and grab the white milk and close the fridge. I open the counter next to it to grab a bowl and my favorite cereal, Froot Loops. I pour my cereal and milk at the same time a guy greets me behind my sight.

“Mornin’” Nathan greets me and walks pass me to grab the coffee he made in the coffee machine.

“Morning.” I greet back and make myself a tea.

“Have any plans for today?” He asks.

“Yeah, I’ve a date with Niall.” I finish my tea by pouring the milk into it.

If I really need to move on from him, I need to act like everything’s perfectly finedespite everything. Especially to see your ex—“love of your life” infront of you acting really irritating when he’s actually just trying to make a conversation.

“More dates.” He chuckles. “Coming late?”

“Well, I’m going to hang around at his flat a while.” I lie, being conceited as possible.

“Oh, well, I have plans too actually. Miles invited me to come by to a frat house” He says as he checks his phone from his pocket.

“Niall hangs out there all the time. It’s his lair.” I snap back. Why am I irritating him? I’m actually the one that’s been irritating him all the time.

“Great, why don’t you come over?” He says as he sits up.

I shrug, nodding.

"See you there.” He stands up from his seat. “And by the way, Miles invited me to stay in his house.” He smiles. “My mom and dad still out of town for a couple days more, so, I’m going to stay there.”

“Well, if it wasn’t because of my mom, you’d probably get kicked out already.” I joke but it sounds more harsh than a joke should be.

“Yeah, right.” He says as he turns his heels away.

“Leaving now?” My mom shouts from the stairs, fixing her earring that hangs on her ear. “Why don’t you stay here?” My mom says as she pats Nathan’s back.

“Oh, I have plans with my friends, Mrs. Hills. I’m sorry.” He crooked grin.

“Well, come by after. I will make you guys some bagels!” My mom grins.

I roll my eyes.

As I finish getting ready for school, I grab my things and my car keys. I drive myself to the school with my mom. So my mom can drive my car back home. My house isn’t so far from my school. As I arrive, I scoot myself to my first period, which is History. When I sit in the class, as usual, the right corner of my eyes is always have and always been, Miles. The last time I saw him, he was smirking at me and giggling by himself. Obviously. I try my best to ignore and avoid any eye contacts with him. I collect my things from my bag then place it on my desk. Then someone blocks the light off of my sight.

“Hi. Sorry to interrupt. Is this the history class?” A tall guy with a ginger hair asks me with a british accent. If it’s not british, probably Irish. Those are the accents that I happen to know until now. Maybe there are more accents than those two.

“Yeah, Mrs. Parker is probably on her way.” I smile the best smile I can put on.

“Thankyou, may I sit next to you?” His thick accent makes him a lot attractive as he points to the seat next to me. But not too attractive for a baby-face guy like him. He’s more to be called cute.

“It’s taken.” I point out behind me. “Sit behind me.”

“Thanks.” He smiles. He smiles a lot.

“So, you’re transferred?” I turn my body around to ask him.

“Well, I’m an exchange student. I’m going to be here for 2 months.” He says as he puts down his backpack onto the floor.

“Why are you only staying for 2 months? Isn’t it supposed to be a year?” I ask him still tilting my head back.

“Uh,” He shrugs. “I don’t know.”

“So, there will be lot exchange students here?” I ask him full of curiousity. He seems really nice, and not going to be long, Miles and his crew of gangster are going to piss him off.

“No, just me for this school. The other kids are going to different schools.” He nods. “I’m Thomas, by the way. And you are?” He asks with his light brown eyes popping out.

“I’m Melanie.” I smile.

“Melanie.” He smirks.

“Call me Lenny.” I chuckle. It’s more comforting for people to call me Lenny, for short. Other than Niall, ofcourse. Something in the way he says it.

“Sure.” He giggles.

“Where are you from originally?”

“London. The brittain.” Right. British.

“British!” I laugh as I turn my body around to face him. He laughs and shakes his head.
