“Thomas.” She states in a straight tone.

“Who can help?” I peek from inside to see the ginger-haired boy, standing in front of her then straightly looking right at my presence. He mumbles with his mouth shapes an O letter.

“Gosh,” He breaths as I walk over to the front door. “I was just asking you if you’ve got your prom dress, already.” He shrugs, scratching the back of his head.

“Why? Do you want to buy it for me?” She teases as I gesture him to come in. He’s not a threat for me and that I respect Melanie for what she did. She said that Thomas was the guy that Miles and his friends were making fun of. She stood up for Thomas last Monday by sending Miles and his friends rude remarks that made them lost of words. The thing is, I’m afraid that Miles tell her of what I did. Even though I haven’t seen my friends since the last one when I got my first kiss with Melanie. I really wanted to tell her, but I’m afraid of what she will react. Maybe I should tell her later.

“No,” He jokes, nervously as we lead him to the dinner. “Hey, Mrs. Hills.”

“Hey, Thomas.” She grins at the sight of Thomas. “Melanie didn’t tell me you’re coming.” She continues her cook.

“I didn’t even know you’re coming over. What brings you here?” She asks. I know that Thomas wanted to ask Melanie to be his prom date but he’s just scared that I’m here.

“I told you I was asking you about the prom dress.” Thomas lies, taking a bite of the fresh bagel.

“Well, what was the part that he should be explaining?” Mary asks.

“Oh, well, I thought Jamie is going to come over but, I don’t know.” She says in her monotone voice.

“What’s wrong with him?” I ask her.

“He kept being busy. He quitted his job at Auntie Anne’s and he stopped seeing me since. We barely even talked in English class. Everytime I called him, he just waved at me then walked pass me. I mean, he used to be the one that approached me. He didn’t answer my calls or my texts. He used to ask me to be his date for prom!” She arches her brows as she looks at her phone screen with her elbow propping her head.

“I saw him talking and laughing with Miles and the others, though.” Thomas informs.

            “Yeah?” She asks. “Oh.”

“Hey, you should call Jane, by the way.” Mary interrupts.

“Oh, yeah, I texted her. She said she already got her dress and she sent me a picture of it.” She says as she shows the picture to Mary.

“You should find your dress.” I chime in.

“It’s still in two weeks.” She says, rolling her eyes.

“Niall is right. You should stop procrastinating.” Mary points her index finger to her as she leaves us to upstairs still wearing her white apron.

“Can’t we do it tomorrow?” She groans.

“Still is procrastinating.” I shake my head.

“At least I have something I’m good at.” She jokes, sticking her tongue out.

“Can I come? There’s really nothing I’m doing right now.” Thomas says, finishing his last bite of bagel.

“Sure, I need you to come.” She pokes his hand.

“Here.” Mary hands Melanie her credit card as she runs to the kitchen to finish her baking.

“Thanks, Mom. By the way, what are you baking for?” She asks, standing up.

“Uh, actually, Candace asked me to join her dinner with her family. I don’t know if you would lov—“

“No, thankyou.” She answers as she leaves the room, leaving her mom alone.

“Well, see you later, Mary.” I wave at her and follow her to my SUV.

We look around for dresses from stores to stores. I follow her around with my arm wrapping around her neck the most of the time. The mall is pretty crowded and couple of the guys from campus and also school is hanging around. What I hate most is, when guys are passing by, checking Melanie out. She wears a sweater and skinny jeans for God’s sake, there’s nothing to look at except her stunning face. But I feel bad for Thomas, thirdwheeling while he helps Melanie alone finding her the right dress.
