"Hi, Oscar!" Olive and Otto greeted in unison as they strode up to the lab counter.

"Oh, hey guys!" Oscar chimed back awkwardly and cheerfully just like always. "What can I do for you today?"

"Ms O just wanted us to see how far along you were with that new gadget." Olive informed him.

"Yeah, what gadget are you even making anyway?" Otto questioned curiously, already peering over the lab counter to get a better look at said gadget.

"Oh, it's a memory-erase-inator!" Oscar proudly announced, tugging on his lab coat. "It's supposed to come in handy in case a villain finds out secret information about odd squad or anything. Then you just zap em with this, and boom! Memory erased." he animatedly explained, waving his arms around for emphasis.

"Really? It'll just erase their memory? Isn't that kind of, I don't know.... mean?" Otto couldn't help but inquire. Olive nodded in agreement with his question. It just didn't seem right to wipe someone's entire memory when there was only one tiny detail that you wanted them to forget.

"Well, yeah. See, it's supposed to be designed to only erase a certain thing from one's memory, or like just the last five minutes of their memory. But I'm not done with it, so it can't do that yet." Oscar clarified.

"Oh, yeah that makes more sense." Olive stated.

Then there was a second of awkward silence between the three, Olive already knowing what Otto was about ask. After about four more seconds, Otto piped up. "Can I hold it?" he eagerly requested, proving Olive's speculations.

Of course, Oscar obliged with his request.

"Otto, be careful with that. It could wipe someone's entire memory, remember?" Olive said, her heart rate speeding up when Otto began to fumble slightly, almost dropping the gadget.

"Olive, calm down. Dropping gadgets is Oscar's thing." Otto lightly joked, causing the scientist to let out a laugh since that really was true.

But just as Otto said that, the gadget slipped out of his hand by mistake, dropping to the ground and making a loud, clattering noise, along with a noise of the gadget powering on.

Zapp!!

Otto's eyes widened as he realized what just happened. Not only did he probably just ruin Oscar's hard work, but the gadget also powered on which meant.... he must've erased someone's memory. He knew it wasn't his own memory, since he could still recall everything (including the embarrassment that he felt).

Otto instantly turned to face Olive with concern written all over his features.

"Olive?" he cautiously asked.

He couldn't have erased her memory. Right?

Olive stared blankly at him as if he were a stranger. "Who's Olive?" she asked, bewildered.

Yup. Otto had just erased his best friend's memory. He began to panic. No. She had to remember who she was, she had to remember who he was.

"Oh no. Oscar, what do we do?! I erased her memory! Gosh, I'm so stupid." Otto looked over at Oscar, hoping that he had some solution.

"Well, I haven't added in a reverse switch yet...."

"What?! What are you? Crazy?!" Otto exclaimed in disbelief, flailing his arms and unintentionally quoting one of Oscar's go-to phrases.

"What's going on?! Who are you guys?" Olive demanded frantically.

Wow. She really doesn't remember? Otto thought, hating every minute of this.

Oscar sighed. "There is a way to get her memory back though. You can try to jog her memory yourself. Her memories are still in there somewhere, plus, the gadget is in the beta stage, so it's not as strong as it could be so she could still recover her memory!" Oscar concluded as he picked up the gadget. "I'll try to fix this in the meantime, maybe add a reverse switch or something. But just try to jog her memory, ok?" Oscar didn't even wait for a reply as he hurried and got to work, Otto turning to face Olive again, looking at her desperately as he led her over to their desks.

"Alright, Olive. I know you.... don't remember," he struggled to say that part as he wished it wasn't true. "you got zapped with a gadget that made you forget everything. But your name is Olive. And I'm Otto. I'm your partner."

Olive looked confused.

"My partner? Like you're my boyfriend?"

Otto's cheeks heated up at her question as he shook his head rapidly.

"What? No, I mean like I'm your partner here at odd squad, where we work." he gestured around the place to try and remind her. "I'm your best friend." he stated, the hurt evident in his voice.

Even though Olive couldn't remember who he was, seeing Otto looking so vulnerable and hurt made her sad. It made her wanna engulf him in a warm hug. Was he really her best friend?

"I'm sorry that I don't remember. Otto, right?" she double checked if she got his name correct.

"Yeah." was all Otto could manage to say.

Olive gave him a small smile. "So I was zapped with a gadget, you say? Then show me around. Try and help me remember." she suggested, despite her brain screaming 'You don't even know this kid!'. She couldn't quite place it, but something about Otto felt.... familiar.
