Oona walked into headquarters with an enthusiastic smile on her face, beaming with excitement as she strolled through the room. Today was gadget fair day at Odd Squad, which was always a blast for all the scientists. It was where each scientist would showcase a new gadget that they created themselves, and Oona had been preparing for this day all week.
She made her way to the lab, making sure to greet the agents that she saw along the way. But she stopped abruptly when she noticed Oscar standing in front of her, her cheeks instantly turning red even though she tried to hide it.
"Oh, howdy do, Oscar." she greeted with an awkward wave, hoping he wouldn't notice that her blush deepened. Oona had been crushing on Oscar for a long time now, refusing to admit it, since she didn't want to mess up their friendship.
"Hey, Oona. Are you excited for the gadget fair today? I can't wait to see what gadget you created for it." Oscar said, giving her a smile.
"Oh, yeah. I'm really excited. I would show you my gadget now, but I want it to be a surprise." she replied, tugging on her lab coat as she shyly smiled.
"Well, whatever it is, I'm sure it's going to be amazing. Just like everything you do." Oscar expressed, making Oona blush again as she mentally scolded herself for it.
"Thanks." Oona shyly said, blushing again. "I guess I should go find Olympia. I asked her to keep my gadget with her for safekeeping." she added, soon walking off to find her redhead friend. Once she found her, Olympia happily gave Oona the gadget back.
"Thanks for looking after this for me, Olympia. I just wanted to make sure it was safe. If I kept it, I'd probably drop it or something." Oona told her, carefully taking hold of the contraption. "If I had it earlier when I saw Oscar, I definitely would've dropped it. I get so nervous around him and my stomach always has butterflies and then I drop things.... It's like my hands are covered in butter. Nervous butter...." she ranted as Olympia encouragingly placed her hand on her shoulder.
"It's ok, Oona. I didn't mind helping you out. And don't worry, there's nothing to be nervous about with Oscar. I know you have a crush on him, but I'm sure he likes you back." Olympia positively stated, but Oona shook her head.
"I don't think he does. He's my boss, he doesn't see me as anything more than a friend."
"I still don't think that's true. But anyways, tell me about your gadget. What does it do?" Olympia asked with a smile as Oona was grateful for the change of subject.
"It's called the read-your-mind-inator. It gives whoever uses it the power to hear someone else's thoughts. It could be really useful for figuring out villains' plans to cause odd so we can stop them before they even start!" Oona proudly explained.
As the two agents discussed the gadget, they sort of lost track of time, surprised when they heard Ms O announce that the gadget fair was starting. Everyone hurried to the park room, which is where the fair would be happening.
Oona was almost overwhelmed by all of the amazing gadgets that the other scientists were showcasing, wondering if hers was even good enough compared to them. She tried to push those thoughts away, but it was hard. She really wanted her creation to stand out, especially to Oscar since she wanted to impress him.
Right at that moment, Oscar walked up next to Oona. "You ok, Oona?" he asked, noticing how zoned out she seemed. "Are you nervous about the fair?" he guessed.
"What? No.... ok, kind of. It's just- what if my gadget isn't as good as everyone else's?" Oona admitted.
"Don't worry, I know yours is going to be awesome. And you don't need to compare your work to other people. Yours is great in it's own way." Oscar replied to her with an encouraging smile.
