you reminded me of

the moon

all hung up

dainty and bright

in the night sky

a backdrop of

stars

behind you

those dark, dark eyes

they shimmered with

constellations

like the ones

made of freckles

across your nose

i'd count them

sometimes

i always came up

with a different

number

it was like trying to

count

the stars

i traced maps

across your features

across your pale

skin

through your

dark hair

because i always

seemed

to be getting

lost

in

you

all alone in

uncharted

territory

i couldn't

find my way out

of your smile

teasing and secret

like a crescent moon

i couldn't

find my way out

of the brilliant

glimmer

of your laugh

shinier

than a polished copper

penny

gently glowing

like how the

full moon looks

behind the

midnight grey

cloud cover

your fingers

intertwined

with mine

like the reaching

arms

of a spiral

galaxy

when it collides

with another

your lips

felt like falling

into the abyss

of a black hole

when you

held me

and i

closed

my

eyes

i swear i could see

stars

being born

red giants burning

and

blue dwarf stars

dying

in the

infinite expanse

of the universe

you reminded me of

the moon

lit up

by my smile

the way the sun

makes the moon

shine

moonlight casting

dappled shadows

across the ground

where we walked

i pointed at the

stars

and said

"i see you in them"

you pointed at yourself

"i'm right here"

but you weren't

you were always

fantasizing

about floating off

into space

because you seemed

to belong there

i could never

convince you

that you belonged

here

with

me

i met you when the

moon was full

and your heart was

too

but the days

passed

hours

turned

the moon turned

crescent

and so did your

happiness

and when there was

a sliver

of light

left in you

i let you
