I walked upstairs to Colby's room to see what the plans for our night would be, since he wanted to be the one to take matters into his own hands to make sure Sophia had a perfect night. "Hey —"
"Don't bother." Colby said blankly.
"What's wrong, Colby?" I asked, a look of confusion covering my features.
I watched as he grabbed a crumbled paper and handed it over to me. It took a second to open it up enough so it was smooth enough to let the words be legible. Once they were, my eyes about popped out of my head.
"Brother, please tell me this is a joke?" I asked, shaking my head. "I don't want to believe that she's actually gone!"
"I checked everywhere Sam. She's nowhere to be found and every last bit of her stuff is gone. She really left.." He sighed and plopped down on his bed face first.
The whole situation was just a little confusing to me. We were only gone for maybe two hours, and in that time Sophia and Angelina had a fight bad enough to make her pack up and leave? It had to hurt her enough when she was looking forward to her last full day here.
"Can you please just help Angelina get a flight home? I don't even want to deal with that right now." I watched as he rolled over onto his back and nodded my head. I shoved the paper into my pocket. "This isn't the end of your time with her Colby, and you know that. I promise that we'll get you guys through this. It seems like a lot at the moment but I'm sure it's just going to be a little bump in the road."
He didn't acknowledge what I said so I left his room and closed the door behind me. I knew more than anything he was going to close himself off and want some space.
I went downstairs to my room and sat down at my computer looking for the soonest flight from LA to Denver to get Angelina back home. It was going to throw her for a surprise when she finds out she's going home today, and soon at that. The next flight out I could get was in two hours. I paid for the ticket and printed it out.
Getting up from my chair I left my room and went to the kitchen where the girls dived into the white claws. I walked over to where Angelina was sitting and set the ticket down on the counter in front of her. "It's time for you to pack your stuff so you don't miss you flight." I said, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Don't be silly baby! Her flight is tomorrow." Kat said, taking a sip of her drink.
"No, she doesn't have a way there anymore. She's leaving today." I said coldly, looking over in her direction.
"What are you talking about? Why am I leaving?" She asked, clearly confused.
I pulled the crumpled paper out of my pocket and placed it on top of her ticket. "Go ahead and read that. She left a note for Colby. She was so upset that she packed her shit and left, and somehow nobody seemed to notice!"
"Oh my god.." she pushed the papers away from her and got up from her chair. "I really fucked up didn't I?"
"Can I talk to Colby?" She asked and I shook my head at her. "He doesn't want to se anyone right now. Go pack your stuff so you don't miss your flight, LAX can be a mess when you don't have enough time."
"Wait! I need to call my husband first and see if he's able to pick me up from the airport tonight." She said and pulled her phone out, calling him on FaceTime.
After a few rings he picked up.
"Hey baby, how's your trip going?" He asked. "You caught me on my lunch break so I have a few minutes to talk."
"Would you be able to get me from the airport tonight?" She asked, chewing on her bottom lip.
"I'm supposed to get you guys tomorrow morning, right? What's going on? Is Soph not coming home?"
"Soph is already on her way home.." he paused and looked at her confused. "What do you mean she's on her way home? You were supposed to leave together. What's going on that you aren't telling me about?"
"It's a long story. I need to go pack."
"No. You're not going to avoid this or me. I want to know what could've possibly happened for your best friend to go home without you. Tell me what happened, right now."
"Okay well last time I called you a few days ago I told you we were going to stay at Sam and Colby's house because they invited us to go on the rest of their investigation." She trailed off.
"Which was sick by the way." I chimed in. "If she told you, you wouldn't believe her. Just wait until you see what happened to them during this, it was truly insane. Oh! I'm Sam by the way." I said, waving to him.
"Things were going good. Well, more than good. Both Sophia and Colby have feelings for each other. She didn't know how to truly feel because of what happened with Evan. For the last few days things have been on and off. I snapped on her the other day for legitimately no reason at all. I don't even know what came over me."
"Please don't tell me you brought up Evan." He said before taking a bite of his food." He looked at her as she didn't respond, her face was covered in guilt right now. "Angelina you've got to be kidding me! You were the one supposed to keep her from that topic!"
"Listen I promise you that I had good intentions! All I want for her is to be happy, that's what she deserves."
"So why would talking about her ex that fucked her up royally do that? She did this trip to move on, not get pushed back ten steps. And from out of all people, why did you have to be the one to do it?" He asked.
"I just wanted her to move in the right direction! She's been so back and forth this entire trip on not knowing what to do. I wanted to remind her that she's not happy back home, but here I saw her the happiest she's been in a long fucking time."
"You have to think of it this way though. When she gets home and she's all alone, she's going to be stuck there thinking about all of this. You know her, she works in silence and next time you see something from her she's going after exactly what she wants. That's how she is, she's not one to be pushed."
"And that's exactly what I did." She said and let out a sigh. "Did you at least apologize to her?" He asked. "No I didn't. She snuck out and I didn't even know she was gone. She left Colby a letter and said she wanted space from me."
"Then you give her that. She deserves at least that much after your trying efforts didn't go how you wanted. You have to think about what she wants, not what Angelina wants. Look, I'm sorry but I gotta get back to work. You'll have to Uber home because I picked up a shift today. I'll see you when I get home."
We sat their in silence as her phone beeped to let us know that he hung up. She shook her head shoved her phone in her pocket and grabbed her ticket. She quietly exited the kitchen and made her way to the guest bedroom that she was staying in to go pack her belongings.
