Just as I was about to comfortably climb into bed naked, my favorite way to sleep, there was a knock at my front door. I just got a shower and was trying my hardest not to get dressed, but it seemed like the universe was against me.
I groaned as I grabbed my silk robe and slipped it on, flipping my wet hair over my shoulder. I made my way downstairs just wondering.
"What the fuck could their high asses have honestly forgotten here?" I couldn't imagine anyone showing up but them, but they left about an hour ago. They wouldn't come back, they would just tell me to hold what they forgot.
Unlocking the door, I slowly pulled it open expecting to see Angelina or Ryan on the other side.
"C-Colby..?" I honestly had to rub over my eyes to make sure I wasn't dreaming and that this was in fact real life. "Wait... why aren't you in LA? Are you really here?"
He reached out and pinched my arm. "Ow!" He chuckled and stepped inside. "There, you're not dreaming."
"Let me grab my suitcase and I'll explain." I nodded and stepped aside from the door because with my wet hair and the cold chill in the air, it was freezing standing here with the front door wide open.
He jogged up the steps with his bag and hurried inside, closing and locking the door behind him. He walked over to me and pulled me into his embrace. We haven't seen each other in person in almost a month. I let out a content sigh as I rested my head on his chest and just listened to his heartbeat for a moment. I missed this.
"I'm sorry, but I wanted to surprise you. I asked Angelina for your address. It was almost a six hour drive to get here from Kansas, but it's well worth it." He pulled back from the hug and gently ran his thumb along the bruise under my eye.
"Do you work tomorrow?" I shook my head no.
"I'm sorry. I'm still in shock that you're here." I said with a laugh. "Is that okay? I'll get the first flight home if this isn't okay."
"Oh, no! No! I want you here. I'm just tired from entertaining the last two days. That and I've never had somebody do this much just to see me. Let's go upstairs and get you comfortable, okay?"
He nodded his head and grabbed his suitcase and followed behind me up the stairs. "This is my room." I said as we walked in and he set his bag by the full length mirror.
I closed the bedroom door and walked over to the bed. "I sleep naked, hope that's okay. Well... mostly. Panties gotta stay on cause of Mother Nature."
"It's fine." He said as he changed out of his clothes into a pair of gym shorts and a tank top. We pulled the blanket down and both climbed into bed.
I laid on my back and pulled the blankets up to cover myself and Colby laid on his side, facing me. "So, now that I'm here, are you going to tell me the story about Thanksgiving?"
"I guess there's no escaping that, huh?" I glanced over at him and he shook his head. "Not with me, nope."
I let out a sigh and nodded my head. "My family loves Evan. My dad is not only a drunk when he's home, but abusive. My mom never worked because he wanted a housewife to wait on him hand and foot. My siblings are the same way, I was really always the black sheep of the family. Anyways, he got mad at me. But could you blame me when Evan and his fiancé showed up? Like my own dad invited them to Thanksgiving because they like him so much! My dad says he cheated because I didn't want to be a housewife... then it got a little heated. While he was yelling at me he said that I was adopted, and my mom verified that by saying I wasn't supposed to know. But it honestly makes sense. He hit me, I pushed him, threw a beer in his face and ran out. I don't plan on speaking to any of them ever again."
"I'm really sorry to hear that Soph, you don't deserve that. You don't deserve any kind of treatment like that. Was your dad always this way?" He asked.
"Actually, yes. I was mainly the brute of it though because I had the tendency to fight back so much." I shrugged my shoulders. "You're strong, that's something I truly love about you."
I turned on my side and reached out, gently resting my hand on his cheek. "I just can't believe you're here. When do you have to go back?"
"What, trying to get rid of me already?" He asked and let out a chuckle. "No! I'm just curious how much time we have together."
"Me and Sam are taking a break until the new year, so I've got a lot of free time for once. So whenever you get tired of me I guess?"
I nodded. "Sounds like a plan. It gets pretty lonely here if you couldn't tell." I jutted my bottom lip out for a second and let out a giggle.
"I'm not really sure what you're waiting for, but am I ever going to get a kiss?" I asked and flashed him an innocently smile. A grin formed on his lips as he let out a chuckle. "Silly me, how could I ever forget?"
He cupped my face in his hands as he leaned forward and pressed his lips to mine for a gentle kiss, which slowly grew more passionate as our lips moved in sync.
It felt like pure bliss.
I pulled back and let out a soft hum. "We should get some sleep, rest up and start our fun little adventures tomorrow, yeah?" He nodded. "I'm with that, I'm pretty tired from driving." He said as he yawned.
I turned over onto my other side as Colby pulled me into his embrace to cuddle up together. I grabbed the remote to turn the tv on and just put something random on to fall asleep to.
Truthfully, home wasn't a place. Home was with him.
