"Shit!" I exclaimed as I looked at the time and saw it was 10:30 am. I wasn't lying when I told Colby that I didn't work today, but the realtor was coming by to see the house at 11. I needed to be ready and I needed to get him out of the house.
"Colby.. babe. Wake up!" I said as I rested my hand on his shoulder and shook his body. "Wake up for what? You said you were off." He said as he pulled the covers over his head.
"I am. But I forgot my boss was coming here at 11 to have a meeting with me. I need to get ready." I pushed the covers off of me and got out of bed and went over to my closet to grab a pair of black work pants with a purple blouse.
Before getting dressed I went down the hall to the bathroom to pee, brush my teeth, pull my hair back into a slick ponytail, and most importantly just make myself not look half dead. When I was done getting ready in there I made my way back into the bedroom to put the outfit on that I picked out.
"Do you think that you could kill an hour and grab us some breakfast?" I glanced over at him in bed as he was typing away on his phone. "Must be important if you can't have me here." He got out of bed and went over to his suitcase to grab a hoodie and a pair of sweatpants and threw it on on top of his clothes he went to bed in.
"Just text me when you're done so I know it's safe to come back, alright?" I nodded my head, and he dipped his down to press a soft kiss to my lips. "Whatever it is, good luck." He said and exited the room.
I looked over at the clock and saw that it was 10:55. I was a little surprised to see that I even managed to pull that off, but I wanted the house on the market as soon as humanly possible. Denver wasn't for me.
Looking out from my bedroom window I watched as he pulled out of the driveway, and not even a minute later my realtor pulled in. I quickly made my way from my bedroom and downstairs to unlock the front door and greet her.
"Hi, it's so nice to finally see you!" A smile formed on my lips as I waved at her as she walked up the steps. "It's so nice to see you. I'm Debbie and I will be taking care of getting your house on the market. How much time do you have to take care of this today?"
"I have an hour. I don't know if you heard the story.." I closed the door and crossed my arms over my chest as I spoke. "I don't really have anything to keep me here in Denver. I would like to sell this place and move to LA. The guy I'm trying to surprise by moving, he surprised me by showing up here last night. He drove all the way to see me, but I told him to pick up breakfast while I had a 'work meeting'." I said with air quotes.
"Gotcha." She said and nodded her head once. "Well we can get this done pretty quick. I'm going to take pictures of each room, look over the house, and get the estimate started so we can get this house listed. How many previous owners has this house had?"
"Just one. My grandma. When she died she left the house to me in her will, and I've lived her for seven years now." She nodded her head, scribbling on the notepad that she pulled from her crossbody satchel.
"I'm going to take some notes and get to work on my end, I'll come see you when I'm done."
"Sounds good. Just yell for me if you need me for nothing." She nodded and turned on her heels walking away to start her work.
I fiddled on my laptop for the next hour, mainly saving listings on Zillow of houses I liked. I truthfully had no idea what the estimate would be for this house.
It was built in 1945. My grandma was 25 and my grandpa was 27. They worked their asses off to buy land and build their home. In a way I can see why my 'dad' would be upset about me selling the house, especially when I did have such a close relationship with her. Even if I didn't do this and continued to pass the house down, one day someone would've been doing this in the future anyways.
"Alright Ms. Emerson, it looks like I've got everything we need." Debbie said as she put her notebook and pen into her satchel and zipped it shut. "Give me a few days to get the listing together and speak with my advisor about the home and we can get an estimate together. Look for it in the form of a email."
"Sounds good. Thank you so much for coming out and helping me move on from this chapter of my life." I walked her over to the front door and unlocked it, pulling it open so she could leave.
"It's my pleasure. You've got a beautiful home and with this kind of history, I don't think it'll last on the market. There is someone out there who is dying to have this here home."
A smile formed on my lips. "You're absolutely right. I look forward to hearing from you!" I waved in her direction and closed the door.
I went back over to the dinning room table where my patio was to continue looking at properties in LA. Not even two minutes back into it Colby walked through the front door with grocery bags. I closed my tabs and got up from my chair, raising a brow in his direction.
"I thought you were getting food, what all of this?" I asked. "I decided we should make breakfast." He shrugged his shoulders as he kicked off his shoes and walked to the kitchen to unload the bags.
"I want to make the most of my time here with you, Soph." He snakes his arms around my waist as he looked down at me. His smile started soft but soon turned into one of his big cheesy grins. The kind that made my heart flutter each time that I saw it.
"So, tell me how your meeting went." He said, looking down at me as he slowly licked over his lip.
"Oh, that? I quit my job." I said and flashed an innocent smile in his direction.
