James slumped to the ground, his back to the tree as he faced the first two graves from the kids that died in the dropship landing. Atom's grave would be next.

He readied a nearby shovel that he had found after they had come back to camp and started digging a hole, right next to the first too. Every time the shovel plunged into the earthy ground it was somewhat satisfying as the pressure that had built up within him dissolved until the only emotion he felt was sadness.

After a few more minutes footsteps approached the gravesite. He turned and watched as Wells and another member of the hundred gently set the body down. The other guy left while Wells grabbed another shovel crafted out of dropship metal nearby.

They dug in silence for about an hour until the hole was sizable enough and then they both gently placed Atom's body in the hole and covered it up. Not a word had been said between the two as they worked though it wasn't an awkward silence. It was almost comforting.

He sat with a sigh against the tree again once they had finished and let out a groan as he repeatedly banged his head against the tree trunk. 'Your fault, your fault, your fault.' repeating over and over like a chant in his head.

Wells sat down next to James with a huff and he could see the large beads of sweat running down his dark skin. Wells looked over briefly as he took big breaths from the previous activity "You alright?" He questioned.

The guilt was overwhelming. James had to tell someone, anyone but Octavia was mad, Monty had enough on his plate, and Bellamy was never even an option. "It's my fault," he croaked. "I couldn't save Atom, I tried but got burned so I left." He glanced at his bandaged arm which emitted nothing more than a dull throb compared to the searing pain he felt earlier.

Wells frowned at the statement and James prepared himself for the yelling when the other boy let out a sigh. "You had to make a hard decision. If you went back there was a small chance you would have made it out alive."

Just those words lifted a huge weight off of his shoulders. He still felt a small amount of guilt but the majority of it had vanished thanks to Wells.

"You think so?"

"I do."

James gave Wells a small crooked smile before lightly bumping their shoulders together as an act of playfulness. "Your not so bad Wells."

Wells gave him a sad smile and turned away. "Everyone thinks I am." James frowned at that statement. He understood what Wells was feeling, he'd felt it himself. Heck, he still felt it, the act of everyone hating you just because they could.

James let out a sigh and his smile turned sad. "You know, it's not your fault either. Your father made those choices not you, some people in this place are just too dumb to understand it."

"I didn't turn in Clarke's dad." Wells turned back to him, looking him in the eye and then away.

James turned to him, surprised but hiding it. "You're a good friend Wells." Wells let out a chuckle and a genuine smile.

"Just two misunderstood guys." James giggled at that statement and turned his body holding out his fist for a fistbump.

"Just two misunderstood guys."

And then there was one.
