"Hey, how are you feeling?" James asked as he looked at Myles, pity in his eyes at the young boys' pain.
He just let out a groan in reply, and James sighed, grabbing a new bandage to rewrap his wound.
James had experience with taking care of lesser threatening wounds, but almost none with injuries this serious.
He could only hope the boy would survive long enough for the Ark or until someone found Clarke.
The Ark. He knew he should be worried about when they came down - James already knew that he wouldn't be set free like the rest - but he didn't care.
If worst came to worst, he would head off on his own. Maybe settle down somewhere - if he wasn't killed by grounders first.
It seemed like a terrible plan, and it probably was, but he hadn't had much time to think everything through.
James jumped in surprise as Myles let out a cry of pain from the pressure of the bandage, James whispering an apology as he refocused his attention on the wound.
Just a few meters away, Bellamy stood at the table, his hands raking through his hair as he tried to stop the tears filling his eyes.
Every few seconds, he would look back at Myles and then James.
The latter still hadn't looked at him since he had walked in minutes ago - whether he was ignoring Bellamy or didn't know he was there.
Frankly, he didn't want to know.
Bellamy's head turned as Jasper walked into the dropship slowly, the older already knowing what the boy wanted.
"Don't you think I want to go after them too?!"
James' head turned, realizing the very person he had been avoiding and the other person he had wanted to talk to were here in the dropship with him.
"If it was you out there, you think Monty, Clarke, or Finn would hide behind these walls?"
Bellamy clenched his jaw as he turned back to the table, where there was a makeshift diagram of the camp and the different posts.
"No. They'd go after me. Then they'd be dead, too. I am doing what I think is right for the group."
"It's funny; you didn't think that way when Octavia and James went missing."
James furrowed his brows as the realization dawned on him. He had always thought when the grounders had taken him; the others hadn't searched for him.
It was an easy conclusion to come to. Most of the delinquents had hated him; he hadn't been too fond of them either.
Jasper set his gun down, anger evident on his face as he moved towards the ladder that led to the higher levels on the dropship.
"Where are you going?"
"More gunpowder for you minefield, sir." Jasper mocked as he saluted.
James quickly got up, averting his eyes from Bellamy's as he followed Jasper up the ladder.
As he reached the top and climbed onto the next level, he started to talk.
"Hey, Jasper, wait!"
Jasper whipped around. "What?"
"I'm sorry. We should be looking for them right now."
Jasper eyed him slowly before letting his posture relax in defeat. "It's not fair."
"I know. Let's..." James hesitated a few moments before continuing. "Let's talk to Octavia; maybe we can come up with a plan to go after dark."
"Really?"
