He gasped open a lungful of air, coughing as he had inhaled too fast. His eyes were blurry with tears but he could make out a few shapes and figures.

One particular figure knelt next to him while the rest were angrily talking as quietly as they could. "Hey," Thankfully it didn't hurt badly to speak, and he gingerly touched his neck without thinking.

Big mistake.

As soon as he touched it the pain came back in full force and a strangled noise of pain came out of his mouth as new tears leaked out of his eyes.

As he blinked away the tears still in his eyes he could make out Octavia, her eyes filled with sadness and rage crouched next to him with Monty on the other side.

"James, James are you okay?" Octavia said as she tried to hold herself together at the sight of him. There were bits of blood caked on his face and his wrists had an ugly red mark across them from where they had been tied together.

That wasn't even the worst part. His neck was covered in black and blue bruises with the skin raw and red. In places, his skin had even been cut by the harsh rope and blood leaked slowly. She didn't dare touch it in case it hurt him even more.

James turned back to Octavia, definitely not okay but he nodded his head anyway and sent Monty a reassuring glance.

He felt determination fill him as he recalled the dark space, as he called it, and Keira's voice echoing in his head. A loud shout made his head swerve to outside what seemed to be one of the tents from the dropships.

"Bring the girl out now!"

"Please don't let them hurt me," Charlotte begged what seemed to be one of the figures he could now identify as Bellamy.

He shakily stood with the help of his two best friends, his legs still recovering from the horror that had just happened minutes ago. "Charlotte, charlotte, look at me."

The girl recoiled in shock at James's neck but tried her best to focus on what he was saying. "It's going to be okay, you hear me? We won't let him hurt you." She nodded shakily as James then turned to Bellamy, the person who had kicked the wood right from under him. The one who had almost killed him.

"What do we do?" He asked, a cold steely look in his eyes.

Bellamy sighed and turned to the group. "If you guys have any bright ideas, speak up."

James looked around at the group. Monty had left the tent to make sure Jasper was alright which left him, Bellamy, Clarke, Finn, Charlotte, and Octavia who stood to the side. None of them said anything.

"Now you stay quiet." Bellamy scoffed as he shook his head.

"Those are your boys out there." Finn retorted.

"This is not my fault. If she had listened to me, those idiots would still be building the wall."

"Well, I only saw one person kick the crate from under Murphy and I's feet." James spat out, unable to contain his pending rage. He knew he had to calm down as the last time he had felt like this...well, let's just say it's why he had ended up here.

"You want to build a society, princess? Let's build a society. Bring her out." Murphy yelled, referring to Clarke.

"No! Please James," Charlotte begged. He couldn't let anything happen to her because although their situations were different he remembered feeling what he felt. Feeling the only thing he could do was blame someone, hurt someone for hurting the person he loved.

"Charlotte I promise I won't let anything happen to you okay? We keep each other's nightmares away and right now Murphy's seeming like a pretty scary nightmare so I won't let him come near you." He gave her a sad smile as his fingers raked through his hair anxiously.
