Sometimes it takes many meetings, many days and many nights, many conversations to know what the story will unfold into, what the other person holds in store, and sometimes just one moment is enough. Just enough, to give you hope, belief, faith, and a memory that doesn't need to be written down afraid of forgetting it, this memory is as strong as the proof of your very existence. You can manage to forget who you are, but forgetting that moment is purely out of the question.
Everything is written? How blessed we were when Paulo Cohelo introduced the world to one of the most gorgeous words - maktub, in his book 'Alchemist'.
Tomorrow was the beginning of the fest. Shane had a dramatic make-over, his hair had grown longer than usual, he had dark circles under his eyes which was a result of insomnia he had befriended in the last few weeks and a thin stubble. He looked more like a narcotic than a student.
He no longer was worried about Jenny finding out whether he smoked or not because she already did. It was Sabrina who had blurted it out carelessly. He found out this through Jenny herself. She told him, before that he thought she found out because of the strong smell that cloaked him most of the time. Sabrina and Dash were the first two people Shane took with them.
Blue, no paint stain, jeans, and a black full sleeve t-shirt, rimless glasses, and rough hair, Shane was standing on the ladder outside the gate of college with a dead brush in his hand, soaked in red glitter and glue, trying to paint 'Elan 3.0' board balancing mind air and a pole in the center but shouting at Dash. Screaming loudly for even the deaf to hear.
"I will let you paint but save the coke for me."
Dash wanted to this labor work, but Shane was eager to do it. He fought, conquered the ladder, and climbed. But, Dash was smart. He knew only three things can get him down and follow his orders. 1. Jenny (by then everyone knew about him hitting on her with a casual stupidity for fun, that's what even they both thought) who would have killed Dash if he even tried anything like that 2. Cigarettes, which Dash wouldn't have got him and 3. Food and Beverages, which was almost just too easy for him to arrange for as the canteen was at a stone throw distance away from where they were working
They had fun. It was weird to see Shane do pole dance, make noises and yell random shit which almost felt normal but it was equally adorable to see Jenny laugh at all that, it was equally heartwarming to have all his juniors have fun and it was equally miserable having disgusted shots being clicked by Stara.
Stara was the tiniest of all. She was the baby girl. She was insanely respectful to Shane even when she tried taking his case. Like Dash, she too was a photographer at heart and would just be clicking photos on her cell phone most of the day.
They all had been working together for months now and they had spent enough time to be close enough to fool around. They understood what jokes to crack and what not to. Everyone started noticing Shane and Jenny, they called them 'Jack and Jill'. When Shane was 5 or 7 he remembered watching Samurai Jack and that time he used to call himself 'Jack'. Also because he was a great fan of the legendary Jackie Chan. He and his father had a ritual of binge-watching late-night movies on the local cable and their favorite genre was martial arts. So, when these guys started calling him that it felt very familiar, and at the same time, 'Jack and Jill' had a ring to it.
After a hell of a fun ride just painting one board they all went to the Keybosh which was nothing but the terrace of the Principal's garage. Joyce and Caroline joined in and they were working on something. Luna and few other volunteers were there too. He just cracked the secret (accidentally) of how to make Jenny laugh at any given situation.
Walk towards, no catwalk, no booty shake and firm like the foxtrot, look straight into her eyes and make her uncomfortable, make a weird expression when close to her and take her hand in yours, she will smile at this moment. Without wasting any second, get down on your knees and say the worse movie dialogue ever written and add 'I love you' to it and she will take her hands away and laugh like a pug.
