Alya sat in the Library alone as the sun fell behind the mountains in the distance, casting a shadow over the grounds. She had been trying to complete the defence essay for a while and if she was being honest thought it to be nearly impossible to finish by one person alone. Books were scattered across the table in-front of her and  ink splotches stained her hands, before her, scrap pieces of paper she'd crumpled up in agitation. She tied her hair up preventing it falling into the wet ink as she sighed, throwing away another draft of the essay.

The paper dropped onto the floor and rolled away until it hit someone's shoe.

Turning around to look up at the person. Alya let out a groan as she spotted James standing there.

"What are you doing here Potter?" She asked irritably as she picked up the quill once again, restarting.

"I'm here to help with the essay" James replied taking the seat opposite her

"Don't you have quidditch practice?" She asked not looking up from the table.

"I did, but I rescheduled. This is more important. Quidditch can wait"

Alya paused as she was writing, looking up and scrutinising James before nodding her head slowly. As much as she hated to admit it, she did need James' help. There was no way she'd be able to finish it by tomorrow morning on her own.

"Okay" she replied leaning back in her chair, "just... please no flirting. I want to get this finished"

James nodded his head in understanding, "how far have you gotten?" He asked looking to the parchment

"Not very far" Alya sighed looking at the screwed up pieces of parchment

"That's okay, we still have ages until tomorrow morning"

"You'd really pull an all nighter here?" Alya asked in surprise

"This essays important for our grades right? So it's important to you?" James asked looking at her questioningly to which Ayla nodded, "then I'd spend years in here completing it"

"What did I say about-"

"-no flirting. I know" he finished smiling sheepishly.
Moving from his seat opposite her he sat next to her looking over her shoulder and writing out ideas for the essay.

The two worked well into the night until the paper was finished. Alya didn't mind James when he acted somewhat normal around her. It was refreshing to be able to work normally and to know that their essay would be ready for tomorrow morning.

"What happened?" Alya asked glancing down to James left hand that was cut.

"Oh nothing" James waved off, "look... Hill. About the other night. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to turn up outside the Ravenclaw common room and shout at you like that. It was stupid on my part. So... I'm sorry"

"It was erm, definitely something" Alya winced as she thought back, "thanks for tonight Potter. For helping" she muttered, picking up her things and letting her hair down.

James smiled happily as he watched her hair tumble back down over her shoulders, "anything for you love" he winked.

Alya looked at him with a heated glare before turning out of the library, not looking back as she did so.

James grinned to himself as he punched the air in triumph.

They'd had a proper conversation.

It was only a conversation, but for James it was so much more.
