A couple weeks passed by and surprisingly nothing noteworthy really happened. Ainia and Clarissa occasionally stopped by the house, but aside from their random visits our days consisted of Tucker practicing Tekken, Eris going out to the forest to practice using her wings in the clearing I found, while I read in the same space; and Mary...was just being Mary I guess? Truthfully I don't know what Mary's hobbies are.
We did have some house moments where we'd do things together, like play charades, watch movies, and eat together and I can say I wholeheartedly enjoyed it. As much as love being by myself there was something nice about being around others that care about you. It just made me feel warm inside.
It didn't sink in until a few days ago that we'd have to be leaving soon, much to Eris' chagrin.
So today, Tucker proposed we play a game to liven things up. He wanted to play manhunt, which is basically just hide-and-seek in the dark. The goal was to make it to the safe area which was my room, a fact that still annoys me, without getting caught. If you get caught you are "brainwashed" and have to help the person that is it. To spice it up, Tucker practically begged me to use my miasma to essentially nerf everyone's hearing. It sounded cool in theory until you realized only Mary and Tucker are affected by it. Not to mention the amount of time I had to spend convincing Miss Mya to even let me do it. She was a little less than enthusiastic about me using her powers for a "children's game".
To make matters worse, Tucker also had the big brained idea to have Mary be it first, which spells doom for all of us. I don't think he realizes how impossible he made this game with that one decision.
The only other rule, which was declared by Eris was that we can't use the prayer room as a hiding spot, to which no one complained.
It started with Mary counting to ten, and us fleeing in different directions while Miss Mya engulfed the house with her miasma. Not really knowing where I was going, I ran downstairs, only to hide in a random cabinet in the kitchen.
Look at my intelligent owner finding the most creative hiding spots available, Miss Mya said.
You have a better one?
Multiple, actually. I'm not gonna tell you though.
...Why even bring it up then?
So I can mock you.
To think this mean, centuries old demon is probably my best friend.
I love you too Arthur.
She doesn't mean it, I had to tell myself. I don't want that to make me happy.
I can hear your heart beating faster, Miss Mya teased me.
Please stop.
Miss Mya chuckled but didn't say anything.
Okay, I need to focus on the game. I doubt this hiding spot will hold much longer. It is Mary after all. I creaked the cabinet door open after a few minutes, praying I didn't see a flash of red. Unsurprisingly, all I could see was purple haze.
Think it's about time to win the game, I thought.
Oh? You actually have a plan?
Of course I do.
I closed the cabinet, being extra careful to make sure it didn't make noise. I swiftly exited the kitchen and moved around the room by hugging the walls until I got to the entrance of the house.
So, what's the plan? Miss Mya asked.
I'm going to "cheat", I answered while gazing up at my window. Though in actuality it's not cheating because Tucker never said I couldn't do it.
