I left the arctic bedroom, only to realize how much warmer it was in the halls. Not that I'm complaining, I love my room chilly.
I looked around and quickly realized that I don't have a clue which direction the dining room was in. But considering to the right is the throne room, I started walking left in hopes of finding it. Down the halls were multiple doors, but I had difficulty discerning whether they were bedrooms or served some other purpose. It took a minute for me to realize how long these halls actually were, especially the fact that I had yet to find a turn or intersection. With no other path to follow, my only option was to keep walking straight.
So when I found two random Amazons in the distance, I was elated, although I doubt my face showed it. They were prepared to pass me by like gum on the sidewalk but I couldn't pass this opportunity.
"Um, excuse me?"
The two women stopped. Up close, they were revealed to be the two who usually guarded the entrance to the mansion. In actuality, they looked almost exactly the same. They're slim physique, as well as their height, was the same. Even their hair was identical, with a mix of multiple braids blended in with their long black hair and having an equal amount of braids on their left and right at four each. The only way I was able to tell them apart were their eyes and accessories. The one on the left had sunset orange eyes and multiple piercings only in her left ear. The girl on the right had icy blue eyes with two long looped earrings that hung from her ears.
"Tahw?" The one on the left said in an intimidating manner.
"Yes, do you need something?" The one with the blue eyes said in a slightly nicer tone.
Alright, make sure you don't use any confusing words. Be as simple as possible, I had to tell myself.
"Can you show me where the food is?"
For a moment, both of them paused. They looked at each other, and without a word spoken, both nodded at the same time.
"I will handle this, sister. You go on." The one with blue eyes said.
The girl with orange eyes nodded once again and departed.
"Follow me." The woman with the frosty glare ordered.
I walked next to her as she led, unable to come up with a topic of conversation. I tried conjuring up a subject we could both discuss to ease the awkward silence between us, but the more I tried the more I started to recognize how little I knew of their culture. Beyond their distaste of foreigners and love of fighting and hunting, there was very little I knew. I looked over at the girl besides me whose eyes were fixed before her. Not once did her eyes wander in my direction.
"Is something wrong?" She asked almost robotically.
"Well, I was just wondering what your job was inside the mansion. I know you guard the door but I was curious what else you did."
"Our duty is to oversee that every one of Queen Tali's needs are met and facilitate the others to make sure they are fulfilling their duties."
"Only Queen Tali? What about Ainia?"
"Not our concern. Kula is sufficient enough in handling her."
Clearly she feels a certain type of way about Ainia. Then again, I haven't actually seen Ainia conversing with anyone since I've been here. Maybe she's more of an outlier than her sister emphasized.
"Do you like your job?"
"I enjoy being around Queen Tali." She sounded sincere for once. "The way she takes action and makes decisions is unlike anyone else in the city."
