"Ugh." My head felt like a bowling pin after a strike. Every moment I could feel my brain swishing from side to side. If that wasn't enough, a loud bell was ringing loud enough to drown out even my own thinking.
Wait, bell?
At first glance the room was huge. I looked around to see a large church bell in the center of the back wall near the ceiling. Around me were white pews positioned in organized rows on the left and right side of the room.
I pushed up from the checkered marbled floor. Columns came down from both sides, making me feel even punier than I already am. Near the back, under the church bell, were long windows. The light shining into them were bright enough to blind you had you stared a second too long. Under the windows was a glorious mosaic full of vibrant colors.
"I'm in a cathedral?" I accidentally said out loud.
"Obvious deduction." A voice said. "But I guess I should commend you for calling it a cathedral and not a church."
Huh, where is he? I kept looking for who the voice belonged to but all the seats were empty. Well I thought they were. I barely spotted a man sitting close to one of the windows at the far end. I was about to run over to him but then I remembered Kallier and thought that running in the cathedral might anger him enough to make him want to kill me. So I sped walk. Which honestly isn't much better.
The closer I got to him the more I realized he didn't look like a regular person. He had a serious case of duality fever. The man had half black, half white hair. His eyes were closed. One side of his religious robe was half black with white stripes and while the other was half white with black stripes. Even down to his feet were white socks with black socks and vice versa.
He appeared to be praying. His eyes were closed and his hands were clapped together.
"Umm." I attempted to break the silence.
He didn't move. I was starting to believe he was a statue.
Silence ensued. I slowly moved past him, careful not to bump into him and sat by him. Then I waited.
"Thank you for waiting." He said, opening his eyes after a couple minutes. His right eye was a deep crimson red while his right eye was a frozen blue. His voice was calm and patient.
I smiled. "No problem." I'm not gonna tell him I was beginning to get antsy.
"So, you're Myala's current partner? What classification do you fall under?" He eyed me suspiciously.
"Classification?"
"Bully, murderer, thief, arsonist, psychopath...You get the point."
I frowned. Miss Mya, we really need to work on your reputation.
"Myala has a history of choosing people who have a screw or two loose so I find it hard to believe you're normal."
"Just a rich kid with amnesia." It felt like poison coming out of my throat. I hate admitting I'm rich.
"Amnesia, huh? I wonder what kind of past you must've had for Myala to select you."
I shrugged. "I wouldn't know. She won't tell me."
"If she's not willing to tell you, then it's probably for the best. That little girl may have her faults, but she has excellent decision making."
If he's calling her little girl, I'd assume that means he's older.
"So you're older than Miss Mya too?"
"Too? Who are you referring to?"
"I met one of the demons recently. I think he mentioned you actually. I think his name was...Kallyur?"
