trost private school

three weeks later.

"good morning, students. as we approach winter break, we want to wish you all a merry christmas and a happy new year! take this time to relax, recharge, and enjoy the festivities with your loved ones. have a wonderful last week of school, and we look forward to seeing you refreshed in the new year!"

the hallway brimmed with festive cheer: students lugging armfuls of secret santa gifts, the tinny hum of carols pouring from overhead speakers, and chatter mingling about grandiose plans for ski trips, parties, and family dinners.

even so, the glittering atmosphere never quite reached you. your own mood felt like soggy confetti—colourful enough on the outside, but weighted, waterlogged.

it was easier to pretend you didn't care when levi wasn't around. but those fleeting glances during class or seeing him in the hallways made it impossible to forget.

"(y/n), are you sure you're okay with it?" historia's soft request brought you back to the present.

the blonde padded beside you, clutching a few christmas cards. behind you, connie and sasha trailed, already bickering about something you'd come to find out.

historia lowered her tone."it's just...i know you and ymir don't exactly get along. it's okay if you don't want me to."

you blinked, needing a second to process what your friend was saying. right—ymir. apparently, she'd reached out to historia a few nights ago, wanting to talk things through; since historia knew that you and ymir had problems, as one of your best friends, she wanted to check in with you first.

"don't worry about me." you waved it off."i don't have that much of a problem with her. annie's the one i can't stand."

"oh, that's a relief. i wasn't sure how you'd feel about it."

"do you think you'll get back together?"

the blonde fiddled with a strand of her hair, clearly rattled."i don't know...i haven't really spoken to her since my mother died. it reminds me of everything that happened last year, you know?" she then added, almost reluctantly."besides, i've already agreed to go on a date with reiner this weekend."
