trost park

the ambience quivered with an almost electric charge, a static of dread and expectancy that left the small crowd of dawn-walkers craning their necks to catch even the smallest glimpse of the fight unfolding beneath the oak tree.

you spotted erwin off to the side, locked in a losing battle with kaiser. the shepherd snarled and strained against the leash, hackles raised, desperate to plunge into the dissarray. you slowed beside them as the scene came into full view.

there they were—jean and levi. again.

but this time was different. jean's fists were knotted viciously in levi's collar, his face a grotesque mask of hatred. both men were painted in blood and earth, their breaths ragged.

levi should've been dismantling him. levi ackerman, the one who never lost, the one who reduced opponents to rubble without breaking a sweat. yet now he stood motionless, lip split, blood painting the corner of his mouth, refusing to strike back.

why wasn't he fighting back?

"tell me this, president!" jean roar scraped through the park."how would you feel if you lost the most important people in your life, everyone who has ever meant something to you! what if they turned on you and you had no one left?!" his lour brimmed with resentment."maybe that needs to happen to you! maybe then you'd have some idea of how i feel, you heartless bastard!"

"is that so?" levi's remark was resolute, his red hand seizing jean's wrist with enough force to make him baulk."well, you're a little late to put that to the test."

jean grunted.

"everyone you're talking about is already dead."

in that instant, the fight evaporated from your ex's body, leaving him recessed. his figure froze, body rigid, pupils blown wide as though the words themselves had struck him.

levi, on the other hand, looked exhausted, but serene.

"don't worry, horse face. i've had my fair share of losses. you're not the only one."
