levi's apartment
11:00 p.m.
the door clicked shut behind you, sealing you in with the weight of your own betrayal. your steps dragged against the hardwood floor, each one heavier than the last, each one bringing you closer to the spiral staircase that led to his room. you ascended slowly, the guilt twisting your insides.
when you reached the door, you paused, listening to the sound of a pen scratching against paper and the lamp light filtering through the crack.
levi was up, probably lost in whatever thoughts filled that mysterious head of his, detached from the outside world and oblivious to your inner turmoil.
you pushed the door gently, the hinges creaking just enough for levi to glance up, his eyes bearing into you before he snapped the brown leather-bound book closed.
"what are you writing?" you strained, barely above a whisper.
"nothing important," his answer was casual."welcome home. did you have fun?"
you swallowed hard. the memory of eren's lips devouring yours returned in a flash, the mistake burning at the back of your throat.
you forced a nod, the lie sour on your tongue."y-yeah..."
too slow. too uncertain. but levi didn't question it. he trusted you, completely, blindly. and that only made the truth more unbearable. how could you keep something like this from him?
the gift bag you were holding slipped from your grasp, landing by your feet like a physical manifestation of your sin. you climbed into bed, pressing yourself against levi, arms desperately wrapping around his frame like you could hold onto the life you were on the verge of shattering.
his embrace came easily, instinctively, but the bafflement in his voice sliced through your fragile resolve.
"brat...what is it?"
"nothing...i just missed you."
you knew you didn't deserve this comfort. not after what you'd done.
