(y/n)'s house

knock. knock.

with a big yawn, you rubbed at your lids, the world still blurry as the door creaked open, and a gentle, familiar voice wafted in.

"happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear, (y/n)...happy birthday to you~"

you sat up, hair sticking out in odd directions, just in time to see your dad enter, balancing a cake in one hand and a neatly wrapped present in the other (the bow being a little off-center from the number of times he'd retied it).

the cake was a dream, a fluffy vanilla with extra frosting, adorned with mini pink flowers. a single candle flickered in the center, its flame swaying like it was dancing just for you.

his smile was big and a little sleepy, but it shone with so much love that it filled your chest with adoration.

"happy birthday, princess," he whispered.

you blew out the candle in one quick puff, the wish still forming in your mind as you threw yourself into your father's arms. he let out a small "oof," stumbling back a step before catching you with ease.

"you're getting so big," he stated, pressing a kiss to the top of your head."how'd that happen?"

you giggled, clinging to his neck as he swayed side to side. though, soon, you drew back, tilting your head in curiousness.

"where's mama?"

something zipped across his face, too fast to catch, like a shadow passing over the sun. he scratched the back of his head, letting out a funny little laugh that didn't quite sound real.
