locker room
"just this once, right?"
"how many times do i have to tell you?"
mikasa's chuckle filtered through the thin curtain of the changing room. you could practically see her standing there, leaning against the doorframe with her trademark confidence.
"you're only a substitute. nothing permanent."
a few days ago, mikasa had ambushed you in the library, pleading for a teeny favour—one that now had you wrangling yourself into a cheer uniform that felt stitched by the devil himself. apparently, the trost football team couldn't afford even one gap in their cheer squad's practice formation, and since mikasa trusted you with the coordination, you'd been drafted as the sacrificial stand-in.
"good," you rasped, fixing your hair."because there's no way i'm getting used to this."
with one last bracing inhale, you shoved the curtain aside.
the harsh fluorescent lights illuminated every inch of your misery. the uniform clung in all the wrong places, the skirt barely reaching your mid-thighs, and the cropped tank top left just enough skin exposed to feel the chill of the air.
mikasa glanced up from her phone. for half a second, her composure fractured into a grin.
"damn. you look so good."
"let's ignore how slutty this feels," you replied."it's kind of cute. kind of."
"right? honestly, it looks like a cheer version of our old volleyball uniform."
that dragged a laugh out of you, the nostalgia of your volleyball days, the days when your friendship with mikasa first blossomed, resurfacing."yeah, except the volleyball uniforms were...functional. this is a marketing stunt at my dignity's expense."
mikasa hesitated for a beat."you know...you never should've had to quit the team. if it was because of the fees, i could sort something out; i'm sports captain now. i have some say in these things."
