"really? that many times?"

armin gave a small nod, sliding his phone onto the table. the screen had been littered with missed calls, unanswered messages, each a failed attempt to retrieve something long dead.

"do you know why? have you tried calling her back?"

annie had been relentless lately, reaching out through any means necessary—calls, texts, even emails, as if trying to claw her way back into armin's life. she wanted to meet, to talk, to dig through the remains of their past like there was still something worth salvaging.

"i don't want to." armin scooped another spoonful of yoghurt, his tone void of doubt."she's part of my past, and that's where i want her to stay."

you hummed, stirring your broken egg yolk."yeah...i get that. relationships can be complicated."

armin rose a brow."are you talking about yours?"

startled, you caught the puzzlement on your friend's face."no! not really...just, you know, in general..."

"i thought so," armin smiled."levi seems like a good guy."

"he is," you confirmed, excitement creeping into your voice."he's so handsome, thoughtful, protective, caring and sexy—"

armin choked."sexy?"

your hands flew to your mouth. shit.

he stared for a beat before bursting into laughter, the sound loud and unrestrained. it was contagious, and soon, you found yourself laughing too, the mortification mixing with amusement as you tried to wave him off.

your giggles faded."i just...sometimes i feel like there's this whole side of him i'll never know. he barely talks about his past or how his feelings. and i wonder...does he not trust me enough? or is he hiding something?"

armin studied you, his usual bright countenance dimming into something sympathetic, more understanding.

"(y/n)," he began gently."just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with everything they have."
