it all started after his conversation with hange. levi didn't know why their words burrowed into him like a thorn under skin, but they had.
maybe it was the quiet admiration in the professor's voice. or maybe it was the fact that, for once, levi wasn't dealing with someone who rolled over and accepted their circumstances, waiting for life to somehow get better.
no. you were the exception.
you were doing something about it, pushing forward even when the world had left you behind. you weren't searching for sympathy, and you didn't need anyone's pity. you merely asked for a favour, even when it was painfully obvious you needed more than anyone could give.
it unsettled him in a way. because he recognised that fire. he'd seen it before, in himself. back before anger and guilt, and the burden of responsibilities made him shut everyone out. levi didn't empathise with people. he didn't have the time nor the patience for it.
but maybe, just maybe, despite the stern walls he'd built around himself, he could afford to care. just a little. for someone who reminded him of the person he used to be.
but of course, this was levi ackerman; so these kinds of favours didn't come without a price tag.
"your...maid?" you reiterated, hoping you'd misunderstood.
there was no way. no way he'd just made such an outrageous proposition with a straight face. however, levi didn't so much as cringe. he remained utterly unmoving.
the nerve of him.
"tell me you're joking." you folded your arms tight."is this supposed to be funny? because i'm not laughing. i asked for a favour, and your first instinct is, what? to play lord of the manor? what the hell is wrong with you?"
"i'm not forcing you to do anything. you asked for my help, and this is what i'm offering."
"offering? you consider that an offer? it's extortion."
