It was the first sentence that already made her drop all her good feelings in one second and have them replaced with concerns and stress.

"I have bad news...."

~~~
"Abby, the black rain's here. It's worse than we thought. It, uh.... it burns on contact. It kills. After today, the water won't be drinkable. We lost what we had stored in the fire. We have enough for a couple of weeks, but after that-...."
"I know what happens after that." Abby interrupted Kane, Meave catching herself automatically shaking her head in distress.
"We need a solution." Silence followed. "Abby, are you there?"
"I'm here. There may be a solution."
"That's great." Kane let out a relieved sigh through the radio, but everyone who would've been there could tell some bad news was about to follow.
That's just how that world seemed to work apparently.
"But to find it, I have to do something that I never thought I'd have to do."
"You'll make the right decision. You always do."
"Can I ask you something?"
"Anything."
"If I take a life.... to find a cure.... does that make me a murderer?" Even Abby herself seemed unsure of what she asked, stuttering and stammering over her words as she picked them carefully.
Meave had never heard the woman being this insecure about her actions or words before. It gave her an uneasy feeling.... Perhaps this had something to do with what Emori had caught up on and had been so afraid of? Perhaps she was so afraid because she believed she would be the one sacrificed for the greater good, even if it was against her will.
As Meave once again tried to glare back into the room, she could hear Kane being radio silent. He was probably thinking of what right thing to say to her at the moment, well, at least something that could make her feel better about herself.
"Abby, I.... I don't know how to answer that. I wish I did."
"What if it can save us all? Would I be able to live with myself then?"
"Taking a life should never be easy."
What Kane said was supposed to be true, but the sentence also just showed how fucked up most of them became after they landed on earth. It did become easy for most of them, too easy. It was almost as normal as a handshake.
"I hope it's not easy for you. Your humanity is your greatest strength. Sometimes we need a different kind of strength. We need to survive. Then we can all find our humanity again."
"I hope you're right, Marcus."
"I have to go."
"Be safe."
"You too, Abby."
Listening to them wrapping up the conversation, Meave made sure to get out of there as quickly as possible. She didn't want Abby to know she had been eavesdropping on her and with a quick pace walked down the few hallways she first came from and then took the second turn left.
Her walking was stopped however when an unfamiliar face, with brown messy hair pulled up like a sort of Mohawk and a mullet combined, was kicked into the hallway followed by Murphy, Emori and Clarke.
It seemed they had returned from the house with a wild prisoner, but something felt off. It wasn't that Meave cared to ask though. She was too tired. All the negative information in the past two to three months had been draining her energy, as well as the baby did.
Not asking didn't cure her curiosity unfortunately and she felt her body automatically following the small group to the lab.
"What's happening?" Meave whispered as they managed to shut the man up and bring him to sleep on the surgery table.
"Go sit down, Meave. This may take a while." Abby answered and asked Roan and Jackson to help her. Even though she was pretty curious and wanted to see it up close, she still listened and took her seat on the fifth step of the stairs so she could still properly see what was going on.
Jackson made sure to find a good vein after the man's elbow pit was cleaned and Abby injected Luna's bone marrow in the hope his body would start producing the blood on its own.
"Hey." Clarke laid her hand on her mother's shoulder. "None of us like what we're doing here. Not even to someone like him. But if this works, we survive. Simple as that."
"I know." Abby nodded and took in a deep breath before she injected the nightblood sample.
Even from afar Meave could spot the new blood running through the stranger's veins and even Roan looked fascinated despite the idea that the man would soon be exposed to radiation and the holy meaning behind nightblood would soon be destroyed by science.
"I hope he survives."
Meave heard the mumbling from across the room and looked up to see Murphy and Emori leaning against the red handrail together.
"Me too." Emori smiled and watched down at the stranger who was supposed to be her abuser.
"Then you can kill him?"
"Why would I do that?" Her smile grew into a smirk and Meave looked back down at the poor man. Emori lied about his identity....
"It isn't him?" She silently shook her head as Murphy grew suspicious too. "Emori, who is he?"
"Someone other than me who's going into that oven."
"Now that, that's a survivor's move."
