Meave had no idea why she had so much pity for her own bloody kidnapper, but he had done nothing more than help her and she started to feel guilty for reminding him.

It was then that they heard footsteps and gibberish approach the cave's way and with the sound of her heartbeat pounding into her ears and her breathing unsteady, they both didn't know what was about to happen.

~~~
Meave started to hyperventilate, but she did snap out of her shock once the sound of her heavy chains tumbling onto the floor echoed through the cave.
The man had loosened her?
"You better stay close to me or else I will finish you myself."
"Am I not too precious for that?" He narrowed his eyes and watched her sternly the moment she asked it which made her back off a bit. "Sorry~...."
"Perhaps just a little bit precious to me, but you're nothing to them. They don't know what is flowing through your veins and the only way they'll ever find that out is after they spilled it." He took her hand in his once she was freed and then pulled her along as he shoved a handmade fur coat into her other hand. "Put that on or you'll freeze."
Together they fled from the cave through a hidden exit after she put on the warm coat, remaining silent to not draw any attention while they hid behind every tree or den in the ground that they could find, close to one another to be as quiet and unnoticeable as possible. There wasn't a place where they didn't hear voices or movement and Meave felt increasingly worried for her own life and secretly his as well.
Obviously the woman was used to being wanted as a criminal, but this was something completely different in her opinion.
As a criminal you know the risk, the consequences, what you get yourself into, but now, you take a dive into the mysterious black water with no clue of what could possibly happen once you get back to the surface. Besides, she's seen how ruthless these grounders can be and instead of simply enduring a long trial and prison time, death would follow.
The fear took over and she couldn't see anything but black spots disturbing her vision and the man noticed it pretty quickly since he suddenly took her hands in his. He squeezed them gently to try and get her back to reality and leaned into her ear, his husky voice whispering to her.
"Easy now.... we'll get out of here without anyone hurting us, understood?" The frightened woman swallowed and nodded, taking in a deep breath as she tried to focus on the man.
She didn't know what to expect when this was all over, she was still under his captivity after all, but she decided to trust him at the moment.
While she nodded, his hands let go of hers to grab her shoulders instead and he looked her in the eye as if he could see right through her with those blue eyes, trying to feel what she felt.
"Listen closely. Do you hear them?"
She did what he asked her to do and raised her brow at him when the only thing she heard were a few birds flying off and the branches of the trees bumping into each other.
"No.... I don't think I hear anyone." She shook her head, relaxing under his touch.
"Exactly, we lost them for now, but they will catch up soon." He watched the empty white forest to check if nobody was hiding among the trees, trying to eavesdrop or assassinate them. "Listen carefully. I want you to go and leave this place. Run as far as you can and run back to the people who need you."
"Nobody needs me."
"Stay safe, Azblida." He ignored her reaction and pushed her away from him, trying to make the woman disappear.
